Ok, normally you leave a review after you leave, but I am breaking the rules because this is an exceptional place. The location is amazing, arguably the best rooms I have stayed in but most importantly the team here are great and the service is exceptional with great attention to detail. The welcome was simply heartwarming and generous… with surprises that will delight you. You must stay here if you come to Bali.

The location of the hotel is very nice. You can find many restaurants, cafes, and beaches nearby. However, please keep your expectations very low. We booked a reservation because we trusted the name Anantara and its chain of hotels. The photos were impressive. When you first enter the hotel, you see a glamorous welcome. However, the inside of the hotel looks like it's from the 1970s. The rooms have never been renovated. Everything is quite old. There are few restaurant options. And when you go to the restaurants, I can't say the food is tasty. Especially the vegan/vegetarian options are very limited. The staff was always very friendly and good, their service was very good, but the hotel conditions are poor. We definitely regretted staying here. Because the value for the money we paid was never this low. Also, if you're considering swimming in the sea, forget about it. There are two quite small pools. The water is warm, but there's no cooling system. You'll need to descend nearly 100 steps to get to the beach. Don't expect any beach experience, just rocks and stones.

Amazing experience. We got an upgrade for a suite with a view on the ocean and a private swimming pool. The service is great, with several visits to the room per day. Breakfast was abundant and fine.

We toured Bali for our honeymoon staying at four hotels, and we left Anantara as our last hotel on the itinerary thinking that we left the best for last. While it was much pricier than the other hotels, we were excited to stay here considering that we took an Ocean View Pool Suite at the world-famous Anantara.
Expectations were far from reality.
Before I explain why we were extremely disappointed, I would first like to mention that the most positive aspect of this hotel is the staff. Everyone from reservations, check-in to dining was extremely nice and helpful, and we had some great conversations with a couple of the staff. The suites are also very spacious, the breakfast is excellent with a wide-variety, and the welcome snacks/drinks are well appreciated. Thank you to everyone we met that contributed to the positivity of our stay, my review is not reflective of the staff’s work, rather it is reflective of the circumstances that the hotel is in.
Now, our disappointment stems from the following:
1) The towels, robes and the duvet covers were torn & tattered.
I don’t necessarily have a problem with a hotel being old (the design is very early-2000s), so long as the luxury-aspect is well-maintained. To find the cloths in such bad condition was disheartening, especially considering the hefty price-tag that comes with the suites which would make you think that there should be a good budget for renewals.
(Shared-pool towels are not only tattered but also have a bad odor)
2) The outdoor jacuzzi had some peculiar brown stains which did not make it very enticing.
Housekeeping tried to clean the stains but it seems that they’re permanent, so we just had to live with it. (I would repaint it if I were management though)
3) We booked the suite with the pool so that my wife and I could have privacy, and she could swim and tan freely.
First, the suites above you overlook your pool, so that immediately defied the purpose of us booking this room rendering the pool useless.
Second, the pool cleaning staff seemed to always be around the private pools sometime around 10 AM, so we would always have to wait for them to finish before we could use the pool as we needed the privacy. Not sure when they start cleaning, but it would be preferable if they started cleaning earlier in the day when most guests would be asleep or having breakfast.
I’d recommend adding a fine-print on the website to let guests know that the pool does not offer privacy (for guests that care to have it)
4) Ocean-view suite has a pretty distant view of the ocean, it’s mainly the green roofs of the other suites in front of you. The description on the website makes the view sound more exciting than it really is.
5) Aside from the wonderful breakfast, dining options aren’t up-to-par with what we were expecting, considering the other places we’ve been to during our two-week stay in Bali. I’d recommend management to visit some of the popular local restaurants to keep up with the competition.
Lastly, small things to mention too are that the TVs are outdated, and the daily in-room fruit lack in variety (should be changed if guests are leaving them untouched).
All-in-all, this hotel has much room for improvement, as it currently does not match the expectations associated with the brand. The experience is subpar, and as much as I hate to say it, I do believe we overpaid for what we received. Our favorite hotel during our trip in Bali was another international brand that typically ranks lower than Anantara on a global-scale, but exceeded expectations here.
If you’ve made it this far, I really am not here to tarnish this branch’s reputation. Aside from the let-downs, great people work here and I truly want to see this branch improve so that other guests could have a better experience in the future.

Perfect location for gorgeous views and semi-exclusive access to Impossibles (everyone else has to work hard to get there). But don't forget to bring (or rent) your own boards in advance as they have none for use at the hotel. Padang Padang is a sorta easy walk at lower tides, but bring reef walkers of some sort.
Hotel itself is terrific, and the staff and food are great.
