The Burj Khalifa, originally known as the Burj Dubai, began development on the 6th of January 2004 and was completed 6 years later, on the 4th of January, 2010. It was developed as part of the ‘Downtown Dubai’ project, along with the Dubai Mall and Dubai fountain. This district was designed to bring more tourism into Dubai and move away from relying on an oil based economy.
At 828 metres high the Burj Khalifa is not only the tallest building in Dubai, but the tallest building in the world. In fact that Burj Khalifa is roughly equivalent to 3 Eiffel Towers and just under 2 Empire State Buildings.
The Burj Khalifa holds several world records, including:
Interestingly, the Burj Khalifa actually lost the title of ‘World’s Highest Observation Deck” to the Canton Tower in China in 2011. In response to this, a new observation deck was built on a higher floor in 2014, restoring the world record to the Burj Khalifa.
As a tourist attraction the Burj Khalifa has a lot of entertainment options on offer. The aforementioned world’s tallest restaurant and world’s tallest nightclub are named At.mosphere and Armani Prive Dubai respectively. At.mosphere sits on the 122nd floor and specialise in top class dining. Armani Prive Dubai is on the 144th floor and is an exclusive lounge ran by the famous fashion brand.
