Kuala Lumpur

Kuala Lumpur

One of the most exciting destinations in the world is Malaysia’s capital city, Kuala Lumpur. This fast-growing metropolis is bursting with diversity. Take a tour to admire the incredible skyline. Be awed by the grandeur of the Petronas Twin Towers, the tallest set on Earth. Travel to the sky bridge that links the buildings on the 41st floors to view the city from the heavens. Feeling brave? For an even higher perspective, explore the viewing deck of the KL Tower which is 100m higher than the skybridge. Chinatown is an ancient and lively district filled with colourful Chinese architecture. Walk the Petaling Night Market for out-of-this-world food and traditional souvenirs. Wander the Batu Caves, incredible tunnels carved into a four-hundred-million-year-old limestone hill. Hidden within is the Kartik Swamy Hindu temple, where a 42.7m statue of the god Murugan resides.

Borneo

Borneo

Split over three countries is Borneo, the third largest island in the world. This is a peaceful, less populated rural area in East Malaysia offering vast landscapes to get lost in. Visit the state of Sabah in Northern Borneo if you want to trek up the tallest mountain in South-East Asia, Mount Kinabalu. This wonder peaks at 4,095m and doesn't require specialist gear so enthusiasts of all abilities can have a go. Set sail on a river safari down the Kinabatangan. Eagle-eyed visitors may spot the mysterious clouded leopard, along with pygmy elephants and proboscis monkeys. Adventure into tropical terrain to sleep in a jungle lodge, awakening to birdsong. Take care near water as crocodiles are common in Borneo. Follow in the footsteps of Sir David Attenborough and visit the nature reserves, like the Danum Valley Conservation Area, which houses orangutans along with bantengs and slow lorises.

Langkawi

Langkawi

An incredible ninety-nine islands make up the Langkawi archipelago. The islands are grouped into two: The quiet and secluded north and the vibrant, touristic south. Due to its outstanding natural beauty, Langkawi was awarded World Geopark status by UNESCO in 2007. It’s clear to see why when you walk along the white sand Pantai Cenang beach, which is surrounded by restaurants, bars offering live entertainment and duty-free shops. Dive into the Andaman Sea at the Pulau Payar Marine Park where scuba diving offers the chance to explore the coral reefs and see the tropical fish living there. The coastal Sungai Kilim Nature Park is a wondrous mangrove forest where you can spot rare birdlife. Bask in the beauty of Langkawi from above in the spectacular cable car ride or on the magnificent sky bridge, built 700m above sea level.

Penang

Penang

Stop off in picturesque Penang, fondly referred to as “the pearl of the Orient''. City tours highlight the uniqueness of its capital city, George Town. Awarded UNESCO World Heritage status in 2008, you can see modern mixing with traditional, from dazzling skyscrapers to intricate and beautiful mosques. Here, authentic Malaysian and Eastern culture is truly showcased. Walk along Chukia Street to come across the Han Jiang Ancestral Temple, built in the 19th-Century and one of the most recognised buildings in George Town. Perfect also for a beach holiday, Penang has a number of untouched sandy shores with turquoise water. The Teluk Bahang area offers miles of beachfront for children to play and adults to relax in the sun. A variety of delicious seafood restaurants line the boardwalk. Monkey Beach is located in Penang National Park and offers great opportunities for casual swimming or kayaking.

Pangkor Laut

Pangkor Laut

Serenity can be found on the privately owned island of Pangkor Laut. A perfect honeymoon destination, the resort of the same name offers everything needed for a blissful holiday in the sun. Private cruises take visitors around the island to admire the sights. Head out on a sunset voyage for the ultimate night of romance. Take a trip to the Spa Village, a four-acre facility offering treatments inspired by Asian healing therapies; a perfect afternoon for you and your soulmate to enjoy. Emerald Bay, named for its sparkling green water, is considered one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Spend a lazy day here or take a dip for some aquatic activities. Roam through the jungle on a guided walk. Watch out for the local wildlife and you might spot a long-tailed macaque, white-bellied sea eagle or a large monitor lizard.

While temperatures vary each month, it remains humid and stable at an average of 25 to 30℃ in the daytime, never dropping below 20℃ at night. Due to its monsoon regime, Malaysia alternates seasons on each coast. The dry season falls between March and September on the east and October and April on the west. While lighter showers will still fall, this is the best time to visit Malaysia and explore cities, walk through jungles or tan on the beach. In order to keep the lush landscapes and ecosystems thriving, rainfall is extremely necessary. The wet seasons occur between November and February on the east coast and May and October on the west. Malaysia is still a beautiful country to visit during this time just ensure you bring appropriate clothing. By using this seasonal travel guide, you’ll ensure the perfect holiday.
