There's plenty of delicious fare in Brazil to send your taste buds into raptures of delight. The flavours and aromas vary hugely from region to region, with fresh fish and meat playing a key role in the country's diet. Feijoada, which was originally produced by slaves but has now become a delicacy, is regarded as Brazil’s national dish. Empanadas are popular pastry pies, usually filled with prawns or chicken, Coxinha is a much-loved thigh-shaped chicken croquette and Pão de queijo is a typical Brazilian cheese bread snack. Another flavoursome traditional creation is Moqueca Capixaba, a tomato and fish stew prepared in a clay pot.
A favourite dessert is Cuscuz Branco which comprises milled tapioca, cooked with coconut milk and sugar. Cachac¸a is the national alcohol of Brazil which is distilled from sugar cane, while the national cocktail is Caiprihinia, a delightful drink made from cachac¸a, lime juice, sugar and ice.
Brazil is a land of several climatic extremes, but none of which are severe enough to deter travel, meaning this beautiful country is an amazing place to visit all year round. The warmest months across Brazil are between November and March when temperatures range between 27°C and 33°C, creating ideal conditions for enjoying the country's spectacular New Year and carnival celebrations. The driest months in many parts of Brazil are between April and October, when temperatures range between 30°C and 35°C. The north eastern coast experiences some rain in the months of June and July, but this usually consists of brief afternoon showers.
