This place was just amazing! It is pricey and for us it wouldn’t be worth it at full price but that is a personal decision. They have 5 different pools, 4-5 different great restaurants, an awesome breakfast buffet, bowling, table-tennis, tennis, and a small beach area! The staff are super friendly and helpful, the rooms are clean, elegant, comfy, and easy to climate control!

A Breezy Day by the Sea I recently had the pleasure of dining at a charming coastal eatery that offered a delightful blend of stunning views, delicious cuisine, and warm hospitality. The location of this hotel is far from the city center, but it has the great advantage of being quiet. The al Fresco cuisine is not bad, and the harmony of the male acoustic guitar trio, including the contrabass, was romantic and beautiful. The young and powerful singing of the mixed trio in the inner cafe was also good. The swimming pool was moderately wide, deep, and clean. The scenery along the coast was also excellent. Overall, I am satisfied.

Located right beside the sea, close to the airport and city centre. During my trip, I have used the ‘Grab’ mobile app for transportation to-and-from the Resort, as it is located away from the main road. The facilities are good and clean, including the spacious ballrooms, of which I’ve attended a full day event. Overall a pleasant experience in this resort, with good service from friendly and polite staffs.

“My perfume has been stolen.” After housekeeping, the perfume I had left on the table for three days was gone. She pretended she hadn't seen it or not, but I didn't let it slide. Her attitude toward me, who said she would write the security report, insulted us who didn't understand the Malaysian language. They were giggling, chatting with each other, and laughing out of context. Looking at their attitude, we thought we wouldn't be able to find perfume, so we didn't write the security report. The next day, we got a call asking if we needed housekeeping, and we told her on the phone that we didn't and went out. But when we went out, someone came into our room, under the pretext of giving us additional hand towels that we exchanged in the morning. When we only received a shower towel from the time we entered the room, we were very angry to see that the requested hand towel was placed in an empty room, and when we checked with the concierge, she only said sorry. The next day, we went to a Korean employee, Karin. Karin was understanding and empathetic to our situation, and we found out who was involved to ask the housekeeper to apologize. She even provided a meal voucher as an apology. Only Karin provided proper customer service, and we were very disappointed with the poor attitude of the staff compared to this accommodation.

Had a two night stay there. The rooms were crisp, clean and fresh. Service was really top notch and loved every bit of it, hospitality I would say is 10/10. The international breakfast buffet is amazing with so much choices. Freshly blended fruit juice and most surprisingly ice cream in the morning! My only issue is the room not having a bath tub cause we stayed in the least costly one. Other than that the place is perfect!

We had a wonderful stay here. The staff were very helpful and friendly. We would like to thank Alice, Clifford and Pechy for looking after us and making our stay so special. The food was exceptional. Lots of choice and very tasty. Beautiful pool area and easy access to the beach. The rooms are in need of a freshen-up but when your hotel and location are so beautiful, you don't spend much time in the rooms.

Top notch service, hotel staff actually care about the comfort of the guests. Breakfast was amazing, there’s something for everyone. Room was spacious and comfy. Though, our room didn’t come with a bathtub. Seaview, nice sunset. Overall good experience, will come back.

We just came back from 4 nights at the hotel, and our stay was absolutely wonderful. We were with older folks (60-70yr) and young kids, and everyone really enjoyed the stay. The private beach was beautiful, and although there were some big waves whilst we were there, we could still play and swim in the shallow end that extended quite far out. The sunset views were mesmerising. We did an afternoon hike as well, which was nice, and the forest was shaded, so not as hot as I imagined it to be. The BBQ dinner buffet was incredible - the variety was amazing and tasty, well worth the price. Most of all, despite there being lots of tourists with different nationalities, we were all welcomed and greeted and helped by really friendly staff, who also went out of their way - from the welcome/ reception desk, the housekeeping crew, the restaurant/ breakfast crew and the hiking guide - we felt like we had entered a home and were being welcomed. Thank you all! If there is one thing I wished the hotel had, would be a larger deeper pool so that the adults can swim. The pool in the garden wing is mostly swallow and for children.

The staffs are very friendly and helpful, the rooms were beautiful and the food was good. My family enjoyed the pool, ping pong and Tennis. We also participated in 2 activities st the hotel, the sunrise hike and the nature discovery ride on a buggy. For the hike we went with a13 years old and 10 years old, they both had no problem with the hike and it was an amazing view. As for the natural discovery hike we went with a 4 years old and it was fun and easy. We are satisfied with our stay because eventhough the hotel was a little far from the city, there were a lot of activities provided by the hotel and the beach was very nice. So it was an enjoyable 4 days stay for us.

Beautiful resort on Tanjung Aru. Really nice resort style. Rooms may be a bit dated but comfortable. We stayed in the sea facing suite and it was impeccable. Front desk is responsive and resolves issues quickly and efficiently. Really thumbs up - one of the best service I have ever gotten. Ground facilities are plentiful and well updated and maintained. The charm of the place is in its people - staff are all well motivated and helpful. Really pleasant stay overall. Not to miss is the sunset view - no wonder people flock here just for it.

We had an amazing time at Shangri-La. From the moment we were at the lobby, we were greeted with warmth by the friendly and helpful staff. They had prepared (delicious) chocolates and a rose for our 2nd wedding anniversary - it was a nice touch! We also loved that room service can be done via our mobile phone. Very convenient and service was quick. The view from our room’s balcony and the sunset near the beach were superb. There are daily activities we can do like yoga etc. The swimming pool was fun (with slides and other activities) and we had the time to go to the gym before having our breakfast buffet. Christmas decorations were magical! It was worth the stay. Would definitely return!

Had an amazing holiday at the Shangri-la Tanjung Aru at Kota Kinabalu. The staff were friendly, attentive, polite and each one was out to please the guest. My son has certain food allergies. The staff took special care to ensure that food prepared for him did not contain the allergens. We used the swimming pool, tennis courts, played golf, exercised at the gymnasium, went on a jet ski and did para sailing. The view from the room was heavenly. A perfect place to spend a holiday with the family.

The receptionist was incredibly helpful, and the check-in process was seamless. Unfortunately, I forgot her name, but she was very welcoming, always smiling, and provided excellent service. What an amazing place to end our Borneo trip. Very nice room (understatement!) with an amazing view over the sea & mount kinabalu (in clear weather). Food in all locations was great, although slightly expensive (but that is normal and to expect). The island is quite big so there is a bit a distance to cover between your room and the common areas but nothing excessive (although it includes going upwards). Nice pool and beach (including a private beach) with great snorkeling places. Personnel was cleaning the sea in front of hotel (this is endless but a nice gesture). Place does look like it gets crowed during summer months so would definitely recommend to avoid the busy periods. We booked a diving trip (via Borneo Dream) and had a great time with their team. Amazing breakfast with a variety of choices (included cheese, which we missed!).

My wife and I used the hotel for 2 nights after our trip through the Bornean jungle. The hotel is proud to be part of the Small Luxury Hotels chain and I have the following notices about it. The hotel is definitely not Small or Luxury. On the contrary, I had the impression of an ordinary holiday beach hotel. I'll tell you what bothered me the most. At the pool gazebos, you have very old, not completely clean and very torn curtains. You should replace these as soon as possible. However, what I consider a disaster - is the cleanliness / impurity of the sea. I was on a "private" beach one day and pulled 20 pieces of old plastic bags and old plastic beaches out of the sea. It's very nice that your staff make various ornaments on the beach with rakes, but it is much more important that they clean the sea from time to time. I definitely cannot recommend your hotel as a MICE organizer at this time. Please work on cleanliness..

Absolutely incredible experience. So much to see snorkeling not even 100m off the beach, but try to do it before afternoon, as the tide recedes. What really made it fantastic was the staff. I didn't hear a single no, always kind and quick. We booked the Gayan Bouillabaisse at the Fisherman's Grove about a month out for a birthday. Was disappointed when they emailed me a day before the grove was going to be closed for something else. But they ended up rescheduling the other event just for our dinner, and we got to have an unexpected fully private dinner!

Rooms are lovely, really well appointed with lots of space for your clothes and bags. If you are less mobile arrange for a lower room as some are up the hill, they will give you a lift if needed. The food is excellent with a choice of restaurants. The pool is a nice size and there is a gym if you want to stay in shape

Amazing locations, saw loads of wild animals. Good time snorkelling and doing the mangrove expedition. They made a huge effort for us being vegan, different speically-prepared dishes for every meal, which were all great. Great for vegans. Incredibly expensive. £7 for a bottle of beer. They do have two happy hours, but they didn't change the drinks while we were there, and there is only one bar, so we spent each evening drinking the same drinks in the same place. I think they could have done a lot more placemaking, so there were more cosy spots rather than one pool bar. The pool bar is also not great, essentially only garden furniture. They charge you for the boat back (without telling you beforehand, it was described to us as a free transfer), and there is no other way back to the island. After we kicked up a fuss about this they removed it from the bill. We booked to do a snorkelling trip with them, and after we'd woken up early and arrived, they told us it had been cancelled because not enough people arrived. Everything is very expensive, they exploit the fact that you cannot go anywhere else. We were there for 3 nights and spent well over £1k while deliberately drinking during happy hour etc. Great place, but value for money is questionable. If we were planning this trip knowing what we do now, we probably would have stayed somewhere else.
