We had a fantastic stay at Iberostar Playa Gaviotas, having opted for a Star Prestige room. The experience was exceptional, with the highlight being the exclusive infinity pool offering stunning ocean views. The ability to exchange towels at the pool anytime during the day was a small but appreciated convenience.
Room: Our room had a nice ocean view, though it was partially blocked by the roof, and unfortunately, the balcony was in the shade too early in the day, so we couldn't fully enjoy it during the winter months. Additionally, our room was located beneath a shared terrace with umbrellas, and we could hear noise from chairs and loungers being moved around throughout the day. Fortunately, we didn’t spend too much time in the room during the day. The minibar was well-stocked, and we appreciated the regular replenishment of coffee capsules and milk. Although the rooms are a bit dated, they were always immaculately cleaned.
Staff: The staff was outstanding, and I’d especially like to highlight Mireia, Andrea, the always-smiling Alfredo, the cheerful Ruben, and the helpful porter (unfortunately, we didn’t catch his name). They greeted us warmly, were always smiling, and were available whenever we needed assistance.
Food: We truly appreciated the premium offerings available to Star Prestige guests, such as fresh strawberries, blueberries, butter, and yogurts. The Christmas dinner on December 25th was a grand affair, focused on seafood and a variety of delicious treats. The dining room was well-organized, even with a high occupancy, showing how well the team worked together. However, we were less impressed by the lunches, which were served at combined tables and offered less comfort and privacy. Unfortunately, midway through our stay, the juices at breakfast became undrinkable due to being overly diluted. The coffee throughout the hotel was also disappointing, as it didn’t resemble coffee, and we didn’t enjoy the tap water served in the dining area.
Suggestions for Improvement: As we typically visit the Canary Islands during the Christmas period, we would have appreciated more festive decorations in the common areas, especially by the pool. It would also have been great to involve the Grinch more in entertainment for adult guests, such as a Christmas photo corner with a special holiday drink. This would create a fun experience and memorable moments. However, we think the Grinch mask could be improved, as other hotels in the area have more elaborate versions of this entertainment.
Since the pool bar is self-service, we’d also love to see more options for mixing our own drinks, like fresh mint and fruit syrups (e.g., grenadine, elderflower syrup, etc.). A chill DJ session at the Star Prestige pool one afternoon would also be a nice touch to elevate the experience for adults.
Surroundings: The hotel is located near a beautiful beach, and we enjoyed walking or cycling along the scenic path that stretches to Morro Jable. I also recommend visiting the area by the children’s playground at the edge of Morro Jable, where you can see green macaws (parrots) and feed them with a generous serving of seeds.
Despite a few minor issues, the hotel left a very good impression, and we would happily return. However, I do believe that the Star Prestige experience played a large role in making our stay so enjoyable, and without this service, we may not have had the same experience.

Our second visit, and it’s just as wonderful as the first! Exceptional service and amazing food. Highly recommended!

Our family enjoyed our stay at this wonderful hotel. At the reception all issues were resolved very quickly. Great food, beautiful hotel, friendly staff, very comfortable mattresses and restful sleep! Those who love silence and want to get a good night's sleep come here! Beautiful pool and lots of free things. There is of course a beautiful view of the ocean and a beautiful beach. There is a large balcony overlooking the ocean, you can drink a cocktail and enjoy the view and that's the best thing! very friendly, fun and active guys who lead the activities. They organize: archery, making natural soap with your own hands and teach you how to make a delicious drink Sangria. We will return to this hotel with great pleasure. Thank you and see you soon

We spent seven days there and I must say, the hotel is absolutely great. The food had variety and the tables aren't too close to each other like many reviews say. The staff was really nice and kind. The shoes weren't great but okay. I definitely recommend it.

Definitely the worse resort i ever been to with the family
We came for 7 days, paid €400 a day for end of April for a family of 2 adults and 2 kids. I am counting the minutes to get out since day 3.
The only drinking water available in the building is some filtered tap water that taste like chlorine and you have to drink from some badly washed reusable plastic cups (No disposable cups, straws or bottled water available anywhere in the building, not even to buy) (glass cups only available in the main restaurant at meal times) so lets just say I couldn't enjoy a holiday where I have to drink tap water from a plastic cup that has been used by 1000 different people and even after "washed" still smells like beer and cigarettes! I feel like we are all dehydrated. The kids is surviving on sugary drinks as find this water undrinkable.
If you like to have a cup of tea or coffee after your meals, you need to walk across the building to a bar on top floor as hot drinks is only available in the main restaurant during breakfast only.
End of April and 80% of the guests are age over 50 and 60. I actually felt like I was walking into a posh Nursing Home when checked in. So would not recommend this place for family with kids/teenager
No smart tv
No channel Available in English apart from sky News.
Meat selection is poor.
Coffee is undrinkable, unless you fill your cup with 5 shots of espresso, every other option tasty like water.
Pool closes at 6pm and the kids was cranky and bored in a room with no smart tv or English channels.
Main restaurant only open from 7 to 10:30 for breakfast. 12:30 - 3 for lunch and 6:30-9:30 for dinner. Outside those hours, there is only some left over low quality sugary cakes and sometime fruit available to eat.
You need to pay extra to use the indoor pool €15 per 120 minutes and kids are not allowed.
Gym is in a basement and very bad ventilated.
The kids zone for age up to 6 was nice, The staff there is lovely and my daughter enjoyed.
If they had some disposable paper cups or straws and bottled water available even if at an extra cost that could have made a big difference for us, another thing you need to get used to is to clean your mouth with your hands as no napkins available anywhere apart from a single one placed at the table at meal times in the main restaurant only. The cups, glasses and tea pots
in the main restaurant is another thing you need to close your eyes to or you would not be able to have a drink. They all look filthy like if they were rinsed in dirty water.
Just a very unpleasant holiday experience!
