Water stopped working in the evening. By the time the plumber came, (40 mins give or take) was too late, and water pressure was still terrible. How can you claim to be a 5 star hotel without reliable running water? Telephone didn’t work (to call housekeeping), and interior has seen better days. There’s a nice restaurant 5 minute walk away though

We had a cocktail there as we were passing by on scooters and the place looked gorgeous. The beach was stunning.
Looks like a lovely remote place for a holiday.
The only thing to note is the beach bar could reconsider the music choices, no need for club house when there's 3 people at the beach chilling...
Otherwise LOVELY

TLDR: Hotel is great value, but certainly not a 5 star hotel from a Western perspective. For 60 USD per night, this is an easy recommendation. The notes below are going to be on the cynical side, but keep in mind this place was very cheap.
Notes,
1. Breakfast is great; pub, beach bar, and fine dining restaurant are a let-down. The distance to surrounding towns makes it impossible to eat out without catching a taxi. Watched a lot of people use Grab to have food delivered.
2. Drinks are decent but won't blow your socks off. The swim-up bar is fun and sipping cocktails in the ocean is always enjoyable.
3. Rooms are romantic and spacious, but could use a bit of cleaning. The rooms are very "Instagramy", but when looking up close they could use some remodeling. Bath tub is fun but there aren't any bath soaps other than body wash.
4. Beach was good, albeit a little rocky. Just bare in mind this is SE Asia so there's always noticeable plastic in the water. Kayak needs replaced and 1 of the 2 paddles was broken.
5. The pools were very nice, and massive.
6. Hotel staff were good, although the language barrier makes it a bit challenging to communicate. A lot weren't even from Thailand so the little I knew didn't help.

Lovely hotel, staff v friendly. We were there end of October so the low season and it was very quiet which meant no atmosphere to the place. The main thing it was lacking was a bar to go to for a drink in the evening as the beach bar shut at 6pm. It had the Pub & restaurant but it’s not a pub, it’s basically a restaurant and they stop serving food at 8.30pm and they shut at 9.30 ish. I’m not sure if the hours are different in high season.
I saw another reviewer complaining about the buffet breakfast having no variety and always being the same. There is so much choice you could have something different every day !
I’d be interested to see what the hotel is like when it’s more full.
Swimming pool big and clean, lots of staff keeping it and the whole place clean.
Free shuttle bus from hotel into Nathon and Chaweng.
Rooms lovely and big, huge hot tub sized bath which we used a few times.
There is no elevator so if you have mobility issues you may struggle to get around.

Review for Mai Samui Beach Resort
Our stay at Mai Samui Beach Resort was nothing short of perfection. From the moment we arrived, we were captivated by the thoughtful feng shui of the resort’s architecture, which creates a harmonious and serene environment. The private beach felt like our own secluded slice of paradise, while the ambience in our room was absolutely delightful—calming, luxurious, and beautifully designed. It’s the perfect location for sunset due to its position!
We also loved the added touches that made our stay extra special, like the beach bags provided, which were so convenient, and the fun we had playing badminton on the grounds. Every detail felt carefully considered to enhance our experience.
The staff at Mai Samui truly deserve high praise. They work incredibly hard and went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable and cared for. Their excellent English made communication a breeze, and their warm hospitality added so much to our visit. We’d like to express our heartfelt thanks to the entire team!
I noticed some mixed reviews before booking, but I can confidently say my experience was 10/10. If you’re wondering about this place, don’t hesitate—it’s a hidden gem. Mai Samui feels like your own private paradise, and I can’t wait to return. Highly recommend!
