The hotel left a great impression. Our room was cleaned daily, with fresh bedding and towels provided every day. We enjoyed the breakfast; everything was delicious. Our room had a view of the pool, and the beach area was well-equipped with comfortable loungers, beautiful palm trees creating a cozy atmosphere, and a bar where you could enjoy drinks. The hotel isn’t new, but it’s very well-maintained. The staff were friendly and attentive, always ready to help. While swimming in the sea wasn’t ideal due to the rocky shore, the pool was excellent, so it didn’t bother us. All of this made the stay even more enjoyable. We stayed for a couple of days but would have happily stayed longer.

I visited this resort only for the restaurant, so I cannot assess the quality of the accommodation. At first glance, the resort looks luxurious, which sets high expectations for its dining experience.
The restaurant has a pleasant atmosphere, and during our visit, we were the only guests, which made for a quiet and relaxing experience. I had a glass of white wine, but unfortunately, the only option by the glass was house wine from a box. I consider this a missed opportunity and a disappointment, especially given the upscale impression of the resort.
We also had ice cream, which was nicely presented and tasted good. The waitress was friendly and attentive, which I appreciated. Overall, it was a pleasant experience, but there is room for improvement, particularly in the wine selection.

Mai Samui Beach Resort is certainly not a 5-star hotel—a low 4-star rating would be more appropriate. While the technical elements of a 5-star property were present (spacious rooms, restaurant and bar, pool, gym, etc.), the refined service and attention to detail expected from a true luxury resort were absent.
One of the most noticeable issues was the lack of experienced management presence. The hotel seemed to be run by interns, and I only encountered the General Manager on the last day—ironically, while she was coordinating cleaning efforts in the arrival area after heavy rains. Having worked in 4- and 5-star hotels for over 30 years, I was disappointed to see that guest interaction by management was missing. In well-run establishments, we have what’s called Golden Hours, where managers are visible and engaged with guests, particularly during breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Sadly, this was not the case here—a missed opportunity to enhance the guest experience.
The room itself was decent, but maintenance was clearly lacking—the shower rail was barely hanging on with one screw, and the toilet seat was loose. The hotel appears to have gone without proper upkeep for quite some time.
The beach was another letdown—instead of soft sand, it was full of broken, dead coral, making it difficult to enjoy. Additionally, the water is shallow due to a sandbank, so swimming is not ideal.
Service was a mixed bag:
✔ Breakfast staff were attentive, and I enjoyed teaching a young cook how to make poached eggs—he perfected them for me every morning, which was a highlight!
✖ Housekeeping only managed to clean our room at 17:00, which is unacceptable.
✖ Reception staff seemed disengaged and unmotivated.
✖ The pub restaurant was severely understaffed during rainy days—I truly felt for the young man left to manage everything alone.
Ultimately, this hotel seems to operate with little concern for repeat business, which is unfortunate. With better management presence, proper maintenance, and a focus on guest experience, this resort could truly live up to its potential.

Definitely not a 5* Hotel as stated.. No kayaks available apparently broken, and nasty smell coming from toilet which was sorted out. Breakfast is a bit bland and the same daily and will often run out of items etc. Restaurant closes at 9pm and pool bar at 6.30pm.. The beach is mainly coral based sand so quite sharp on the feet.
