Roman is really cool. Great server. Gets to know you and has a great attitude. We found him at the snack bar which is much more than just a snack bar. The drinks were flowing and the food was great. Awesome first 30 minutes experience. I haven't even changed out of my canadian clothes yet... great so far.

This is a very large resort with a lot of beautiful trails surrounded by trees and bushes. Animals roam around everywhere which is a cool sight to see. However. Due to the beauty and jungle aspect, the resort is large and spaced poorly. You will be walking a lot. Be prepared to walk at least 10 minutes to wherever you would like to go. Majority of the main resturants are located in the main building and not spread out throughout the resort like some places. The food was great, I did not get sick at all while we stayed with a lot of selections. The rooms were used. But we expected that. The staff was friendly and helpful. The Beach was small with limited loungers. All in all it was a solid resort.

Alberto, Samuel, Maximile, and Raguel at the Royal level restaurant were incredible. By day 2 they had already memorized our favorite drinks and food preferences. Our group of four felt so welcome and taken care of by these gentlemen. This was our 4th time here and the service at the Royal restaurant was exceptional every time. If I had to say anything negative it would have to be that the recent change to the dinner menu was not something any of us enjoyed. We loved the nightly themed menus from 2 years prior and the absolute best menu was in 2020 and 2021. Overall ALL the staff at this resort are very friendly and make your enjoyment their priority. Rooms are clean and well kept every day with a great turndown service by the ladies.

Just so my review is clear, I’ll be talking about my stay here at the higher end part of the resort reserved for timeshare owners and exclusive members. The regular visitors will have a much lower end experience. With that said the back private buildings are far nicer than the main resort but they are extremely dated and falling apart. We reserved a king bed and ended up stuxk in a double full bed suite for our stay. Not even double queen beds. We slept together one night and both my girlfriend and are 6ft and we both were falling off the bed. It was very difficult to get consistent daily room service. Some days they remembered to stock the fridge and leave coffee but most days they had to send someone after repeatable calling room service. It wasn’t even peek season so if you go when it’s busy im sure it will be much worse. Somedays it seemed impossible to even get clean towels. Forget clean washclothes. You get them on arrival and 8 days in not a single new clean one. Buffet meals were pretty solid. We had special dining seating and private waiter and even that was toych and go. Some meals we waited 15 minutes after seating to order drinks and sometimes they wouldnt bring our drinks like water till the end of our meal. We had unlimited fine dining nightly but found the buffet had better food. The one thing that makes this place too tier is the location. Being on the coast surrounded by jungle is amazing. The coastal front is 95% fossilized coral but they do have a couple man made sandy beach areas. The little swimming area off the restaurant was the best. A small tide pool area about 5ft deep that fills with exotic fish. The drinks are trash in the normal areas. Having access to the clubhouse gave us much better drink options but they dont always keep them fully stocked with premium spirits. If they updated or at least fixed the broken stuff it would be a much better stay. The wildlife is incredible and made the stay bearable with a little joy.

It’s is our 4th time at Occidental as members with Barcelo and you all never disappoint us. The resort is amazing and beautiful. We absolutely love it here from the minute we get off the transport van , to check in , restaurants and waiters , pool and beach bartenders ,spa and room cleaning services. The waiters and all staff are absolutely amazing with so much kindness and always so attentive. Occidental please take care of your employees and maybe give them some bonuses or paid bonus day off because they work so hard and they are the ones that keep this resort running amazingly and they make us come back every time because it’s just such a great experience . Spa -Ruby and Noemi were exceptional. Waiters at the main buffet: Marbella, Gerardo, Alfredo, Floriano, Sugeyli, Efrain are our regulars, amazing and fell like family now. Keep up the good work and thank you for having us and let us create amazing memories.
