Standing proudly atop the Ponta da Cruz cliff, with striking ocean views is the Pestana Grand. With an onsite gym, spa, vast sun terrace and seafront promenade running right by the front of the hotel, you can spend your time under the sun being as active or as relaxed as you wish. There is a small selection of restaurants to choose from onsite so that you can enjoy various different types of cuisine without even needing to leave the hotel, but should you wish to venture outside of the hotel, a selection of shops, bars and restaurants are all within easy reach.

If you choose to go all inclusive, the programme generally consists of breakfast (8am to 10.30am), lunch (1pm to 3pm) and dinner (7pm to 9.30pm), all buffet style, served in the main restaurant. During meals soft drinks, beer, water and wine are usually offered. Locally produced alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks like water, wine, soft drinks, beer and spirits are usually served from 11am to 10pm (except during meal times).

Our 2nd stay here. We got our room early which was a nice surprise. Always get a nice glass of Madeira on arrival too. Most of the staff are friendly and helpful. Rooms are given a once over every day (except Sunday I think). Everything you could possibly need in the rooms. The room decor is a little dated but clean and functional with amazing views. This year, unfortunately, our bed was extremely uncomfortable. After the first night we received a call from reception asking how everything was and we mentioned the bed and by that night they had fitted a mattress topper. It was improved, not the best, but not dreadful, and we were grateful, however I do think some new mattresses are needed. The pool and pool area is lovely BUT, and this was the only other issue, the sun loungers are old and saggy, so are very uncomfortable. All in all. A lovely place/location and I'm sure we will be back again.

We had a great stay in August 2025. Greatest souvenire from the hotel is a recipe for the best lime cheescake we’ve ever ate. My wife asked waiter for the recipe and he got it from the cook/chef. Next day on the breakfast he bring the recipe to our table. That indicates a high level of the hotel staff! So right now we have a piece of the Pestna Grand in our home in Poland. Psst.. you can find the recipe in the picture, don’t share it ;) Best Experience: Madeiran evening in the restaurant. Only four stars because of the small and quite poor evening food corner. After all - great stay. And our many thanks for the waiter for the recipe (I forgot the name -sorry).

We spent in this hotel two lovely weeks in July. The stuff was really helpful and friendly. We had a comfortable room with a sea view which was absolutely wonderful! The food was very good, great fish and meat, plenty of vegetables and fruit. It’s a very quiet and peaceful hotel without loud animation program. The swimming pools were really big, however, the water was slightly too cold for us. The location was great near restaurants, cafes, a taxi rank, a shopping mall and a bus stop. Almost every day we took a walk to the Funchal city centre. We would come back to this hotel with pleasure.

Just concluded our 4 night stay at Pestana Grand and had the loveliest time. Exemplary customer service — they were so helpful, kind, and even went out of their way to help me celebrate my birthday with a personalized note and a bottle of bubbly. The location is not exactly walking distance from Funchal city centre but there is a bus stop located convenient right outside of the hotel, making getting around a breeze. Food was actually pretty good considering it’s hotel food. Above all else, I don’t think anything could beat the pool here — huge, clear, and clean. Sad to be leaving but looking forward to coming back to enjoy the sunset from this hotel’s pool again.

This place is amazing. More than worthy of its 5 star rating. The food, rooms, staff and facilities are absolutely top drawer. We have tried to find fault of anything but we can't. It is a bit of a jaunt to walk in to Funchal but a bus ride for less than 2 Euros each sorts that out, and the buses are on average about every 10 minutes. Come and see for yourselves, you will not be disappointed.
