Bajan pepperpot stew is a classic dish featuring pork, mutton, beef, Bajan spices and hot peppers, while rice and peas is a much-loved combination which is often served with fresh fish.
A famous dining occasion in Barbados is the weekly Oistins’ Fish Fry where tuna, swordfish, lobster, marlin and other seafood delights are grilled in front of you. The event also features an evening of lively dancing and music on the beach. A popular local drink that's definitely worth trying is rum punch, while Mauby is a thirst-quenching beverage, made from the bark of the Mauby tree and boiled with orange peel, nutmeg, cloves and cinnamon.
Barbados is mostly sunny and warm all-year round, with 3,000 hours of annual sunshine and an average daytime high of 30°C. A great time to visit is during the driest part of the year between December and early April, when the prevailing north east trade winds create a pleasant cooling effect. There will be plenty of invigorating sunshine, warm temperatures and clear blue skies. The peak holiday time on the island is January.

Temperatures do not vary much during the year, averaging between 21.1°C and 31.1°C. The average daily high temperature is 30°C. The wet season runs from June to November, with rainfall presenting itself in the form of brief showers, but there will still be plenty of wonderful sunshine. The showers often offer a welcome break from the muggy and humid weather. The best time to avoid the crowds in Barbados is from June to August.
