Lisbon is one of the Western Mediterranean's premier culinary destinations - and in fact stands toe-to-toe with many of the world's top foodie locations. You can't visit Portugal without having at least one classic pasteis de nata - the iconic egg custard tart in a perfectly crisp shell. We'd also recommend sampling a glass or two of wine with some local seafood if you have the time, while a bifana - a pork and garlic sandwich - is a local delicacy not to be missed.
There's no shortage of cultural and historical highlights right throughout Lisbon, though real enthusiasts should make a beeline for Belem. Here you can visit the impressive Torre de Belem fort - which looks as though it's floating out at sea - or spend hours wandering the hallways of the stunning Jeronimos Monastery. Since you're on your own Portugal cruise adventure, it might also be an idea to visit the tomb of Vasco da Gama, the country's most famous explorer.
Lisbon's stunning vistas are perhaps best explored from the miradouros - viewpoints dotted around the city's seven hilltops. Each viewpoint offers plenty of spots to sit and take a breather, and many also have cafes to grab a drink to toast the view. There are countless lists of the best miradouros around the city, so we recommend doing a bit of research before you set sail for your cruise to Lisbon to plan out your route. Or, simply wander the stunning city and see what you find!
