Cruises to Lisbon

Lisbon is one of Europe's most popular cities, with plentiful history, culture, food and architecture to enjoy. It's also home to a classically Mediterranean climate, so visitors can enjoy warm weather year-round. Many Western Mediterranean cruise holidays stop at the port of Lisbon, offering guests the chance to explore this iconic capital and experience Portuguese culture first-hand.

The oldest city in Western Europe is home to awe-inspiring architecture, stunning beaches and plenty of vibrant nightlife. Visitors on a Lisbon cruise will be amazed by the spellbinding views the city offers from its elevated hillside location above the River Tagus. You'll discover magnificent monasteries, cathedrals, palaces, and museums in this magical city, where key attractions include the statue of Cristo Rei, Belém Tower and St George's Castle. Lisbon has an abundance of fabulous restaurants, excellent shops and its sensational sandy expanses include Carcavelos Beach and Guincho Beach.

Many major cruise lines include Portugal's capital city on Mediterranean cruise itineraries, and it's no mystery why. Whether you're a history buff keen to explore the past, a foodie looking to eat your way around the city, or simply a traveller ready to see the sights, Lisbon is sure to be one of your favourite stops on any cruise holiday.

Things To Do In Lisbon

Local Cuisine

Lisbon is one of the Western Mediterranean's premier culinary destinations - and in fact stands toe-to-toe with many of the world's top foodie locations. You can't visit Portugal without having at least one classic pasteis de nata - the iconic egg custard tart in a perfectly crisp shell. We'd also recommend sampling a glass or two of wine with some local seafood if you have the time, while a bifana - a pork and garlic sandwich - is a local delicacy not to be missed.

Explore the architecture

There's no shortage of cultural and historical highlights right throughout Lisbon, though real enthusiasts should make a beeline for Belem. Here you can visit the impressive Torre de Belem fort - which looks as though it's floating out at sea - or spend hours wandering the hallways of the stunning Jeronimos Monastery. Since you're on your own Portugal cruise adventure, it might also be an idea to visit the tomb of Vasco da Gama, the country's most famous explorer.

Go sightseeing

Lisbon's stunning vistas are perhaps best explored from the miradouros - viewpoints dotted around the city's seven hilltops. Each viewpoint offers plenty of spots to sit and take a breather, and many also have cafes to grab a drink to toast the view. There are countless lists of the best miradouros around the city, so we recommend doing a bit of research before you set sail for your cruise to Lisbon to plan out your route. Or, simply wander the stunning city and see what you find!

Travel Expert Tips for Lisbon Cruises

"If you've got time to explore Lisbon, I'd recommend getting a Lisboa Card. You get free unlimited public transport, which can really help speed up transfers between attractions to save time during your day in-port. You also get free entrance to 35 of the city's best attractions - I highly recommend the Torre de Belem!"
