Best Holiday Destinations for February

Sometimes, a trip somewhere warm and sunny in February is a necessity rather than a luxury. Booking a week or two of vitamin D and relaxation somewhere far away is the perfect antidote to the winter blues. Luckily, there are plenty of places to escape the UK during the grim winter months. Here’s our pick of the best places to holiday in February.

The Maldives

Maldives

We don’t need much persuading to go to the Maldives, but February, in particular, is the best time to go. This is the sunniest month of the year, with around 10 hours of daily sunshine and average temperatures of 28C – what more of an excuse do you need to flee the dark days and drizzle of the UK?

Once there, let island life take over. Relax on some of the most stunning tropical beaches on Earth, experience incredible scuba dives and snorkelling and go paddle boarding. And if you’re bringing children, prepare yourself with next level children’s activities – dolphin spotting with marine biologists, air conditioned art classes and full use of the entire island to dress up like pirates and dig for treasure.

No matter what your budget is, life on a Maldivian island is five star living. Get used to eating gourmet food at every opportunity, staying in luxury beach bungalows and sea plane transfers.

And most importantly, embrace the “no news, no shoes” mentality of the Maldives and forget about real life for a bit. Your mind, body and soul will thank you for it!

Sunset

St Lucia

StLucia

Considered one of the jewels of the Caribbean, St Lucia boasts some of the most incredible sights on one small island. From the majestic heights of the Gros Pitons mountains to the unique drive in volcanoes and mud baths of Soufriere.

If you visit St Lucia at anytime, go in February. Rainfall is light and temperatures stick around the 26C area. The island is warm, but cool enough for visitors to really explore the beauty of the island.

Choose between eco-friendly boutique hotels, beach resorts and luxury hotels perched on mountainsides overlooking the Caribbean Sea. Although you’re never too far from the ocean on St Lucia, we recommend checking out the beaches on the west side of the island – the coastline here is a thing of exceptional beauty, and with lots of activities happening everywhere, you will not be short of things to do.

And if you like seafood, quality aged rum and music till dawn, St Lucia is the perfect holiday destination for you to soak up the sun and forget about rain lashed February on the other side of the planet!

Kuala Lumpur

StLucia

Besides horizontal rain and minimal hours of sunlight, Malaysia has got it all. And it’s all summed up in the ultra-modern metropolis of Kuala Lumpur, a 24-hour city of paradoxes. Next to the towering skyscrapers filled with hi tech offices and luxury boutiques sit ancient temples filled with incense and garlands of flowers. Thousand-year-old statues stand in close proximity to multi million pound shopping malls. But the contrast of old and new blend harmoniously making Kuala Lumpur the progressive city that it is.

February in the city is warm, and temperatures can reach into the early 30s. This is perfect weather for taking part in Chinese New Year celebrations, which take place around the city during February. Get to know the traditions that take place in the city around this time, like the gifting of oranges, the tossing of Yee Sang and the Lion Dance.

Besides the celebrations that take over the city at this time of year, prepare yourself for how luxurious Kuala Lumpur is. From the five star hotels to gourmet restaurants, designer shops to champagne rooftop bars – the Malaysian capital pushes the envelope when it comes to opulence and hospitality. And with such a rich culture saturated into its very fabric, February is the perfect month to enjoy the madness, spirituality, celebration and awe inspiring landscape of this iconic city.
