While Onboard – Tips and Advice

When deciding what to pack, you should consider what the weather conditions will be like where you are travelling to. You should also think about what the weather will be like while at sea and remember that your ship will have air conditioning. If you are travelling to destinations where the weather will be hot, it is advisable to pack sun cream, sunglasses and a sun hat. You should also pack sensible footwear for any tours or activities you may go on and consider what clothing you may need if visiting sacred sites or religious buildings, where you may be required to cover your knees and shoulders.

Your luggage will usually be taken from you by baggage handlers after you arrive at the cruise terminal and delivered to your cabin or stateroom. If you are a fly-cruise passenger, you will have to reclaim your luggage after your flight. If you have transfers organised with the cruise company, your baggage may be taken to the handlers in the vehicle after you arrive at the cruise terminal. If not, you will have to take your luggage to the handlers. It will then be taken to your cabin or stateroom.

Please make sure your luggage is correctly labelled. Please visit your cruise line’s website for more information on luggage procedures.

You will usually find that cruise lines offer two evening performances of a show so guests can attend one, either before or after dinner, depending on their sitting time.

Every ship offers a variety of amenities in its cabins or staterooms, with items depending on the level of accommodation you have chosen. Typical features include a bed, TV, tea and coffee-making facilities, a hairdryer, safe and an ensuite bathroom. Please visit the relevant ship page on our website, or your cruise line’s website, to find out about the features in your cabin or stateroom.

A cashless payment system is in operation on all cruise ships, where you will be required to register a payment debit or credit card before you sail to pay for items onboard. You will then use a keycard or another device to pay for items. You will be presented with your bill at the end of your cruise, which will be paid via the credit or debit card you registered with. If the currency your card uses is different from the one used by your cruise line, you may be charged a transaction fee for the currency exchange. Please visit your cruise line’s website for more information on their payment process.

Security reasons mean that only passengers with a valid booking are allowed on the ship.

A Pullman Berth is a pull-down bed that can be folded back up when not in use.

When the water is too shallow for a ship to stop at a pier or a dock, the vessel will use small boats to take passengers to shore. This type of stop is referred to as a Tender Port. Wheelchair users or passengers with limited mobility may not be able to leave the ship at such ports. Please check your itinerary to see if your cruise includes any Tender Ports or visit your cruise line’s website for information.
