With the rise of cheaper travel abroad, multicentre holidays are becoming more and more popular.
If you’ve never heard this term before, it’s simple. Instead of choosing just one destination, you visit two or even three! There are a number of reasons why we love these multicentres so much and after reading this, we hope that you will too.
Source: PixabayIt can be difficult to decide on a destination when you’re a beach bum but your travel companion likes an itinerary jam-packed with activities. If you can’t choose where to spend your next holiday, multicentres can be a great compromise or an interesting way to mix up your travel style. Many of our most popular multi-stop trips combine a bustling city with incredible beach destinations so that you can experience a holiday filled with variety.
When flying from the UK to Asia, it’s very common to stop over in a gateway city first. While these transfers can be as short as an hour or two, this means a lengthy travel time before your holiday can begin. If you tend to feel drained after a long plane journey, spending a few nights in your stopover city can be a great way to help you adjust to the new time zone AND see a new country in the process!
The cost of flights can often be your biggest holiday expense – especially if you’re visiting somewhere like South East Asia where hotel prices are low compared to Western Europe or the USA. This means that, depending on the location, it can often be cheaper to plan a multi-centre trip than to book two separate holidays, particularly if your flight already stops your first destination.
Spend a few nights in the city of indulgence before moving onto vibrant Thailand. You’ll often find Dubai multi-centre holidays because, as one of the Middle East’s biggest transport hubs, it’s perfect for a stopover on your way to Asia. Whether you choose to shop ‘til you drop or escape from the city on a desert safari, there’s enough to keep the most discerning traveller entertained here! Then, head over to Thailand for a spot of relaxation in Phuket or Khao Lak. You’ll be sure to fall in love with the pristine beaches, delicious food and laid-back culture of the land of smiles.
For the ultimate luxury holiday, combine a stay at an exclusive Indian Ocean island resort with a few days in the opulent city of Dubai. Another popular connection for the Maldives and Mauritius is Sri Lanka, where you can take in the diverse culture before continuing on your journey to relaxation.
If bustling cities, stunning countryside, sparkling white sands and lush jungles have you brimming with excitement, then a multicentre break to Malaysia could be the perfect trip. Cheap and plentiful internal flights mean that it’s easy to visit three of the most popular destinations, Kuala Lumpur, Langkawi and Penang, within two weeks. We just love this itinerary because it gives a perfect balance of vibrant city living, excellent food and island relaxation.
Another fantastic gateway city is Singapore and your layover options here are particularly fantastic. Changi Airport has consistently been voted one of the best in the world and among other attractions, you can check into one of the transit hotels or, if you have at least five hours between connecting flights, register for a free city sightseeing tour. However, if you have time to spend an extra few days in Singapore, it really is worth it. We find that it makes the perfect stop on your way to Bali, as the onward flight to your final destination is just under three hours.
