Check-in bags vary between the destination and the fare you’ve selected. For Economy Class, the weight limit is 25kg per passenger. Business, First and Residence Classes have up to 32kg per passenger. Multiple bags are allowed for everyone as long as the weight is evenly distributed between them and they don’t exceed your allowed limit. All bags must not be longer than 300cm (length+height+width). What is Etihad Airways cabin baggage allowance?

Again, cabin baggage allowances are subject to destination and the class in which you are travelling. For those in Economy, you are allowed one cabin bag per person no heavier than 7kg and no bigger than 56cm X 36cm X 23cm (length, width, height). Passengers are not permitted to bring any other personal bags and everything must fit inside your cabin bag. For Business, First and Residence Classes, you are allowed two cabin bags per person with a combined weight up to 12kg plus one extra personal item, such as a handbag or laptop case, weighing no more than 5kg with maximum dimensions of 23cm X 39cm X 19cm. All duty free purchases must fit into your cabin baggage and are not allowed to be carried separately onto the plane. For bags that do not conform to these regulations and need to be checked in, there is a fee of $60 USD.

Family at the airport

Is Etihad Airways good for children?

Yes, it most definitely is! Etihad Airways offer preferential boarding so that families with infants can find their seats and get comfy before the rest of the passengers embark. On board, children will be all smiles thanks to a little help from some of their favourite cartoon characters. In partnership with Warner Bros. World™ Abu Dhabi, Etihad is serving enhanced children’s menus, with food and snack options that can be chosen 24 hours before your flight. On long-haul journeys, little ones under two years of age will receive a soft fleece blanket featuring Bugs Bunny and friends. Children aged three to eight will be treated to a goodie bag filled with an activity book, crayons, card game and a special passport holder, while kids aged nine to 13 get a Scooby-Doo-themed backpack, board game and passport holder. Add to this a variety of kids shows and games on the entertainment system on the back of each chair and the hours will fly by. Cabin crew cannot sterilise water for babies, but bottled water can be provided for bottle-making. Younger children are given water or milk to drink on take off and landing as the swallowing motion helps to regulate their ears. Changing and breastfeeding facilities are also available.

Mother with her baby at the airport

What are the rules for flying on Etihad Airways with a baby?

Babies and infants (7 days to 23 months) must be accompanied by an adult (aged 18+) who is responsible for them, even twins and triplets. They do not need their own seat but they must spend the entire flight on a parent’s knee secured with a baby seat belt provided by the cabin crew. A seat may be booked for an infant but they will need a car seat. If it meets the guidelines of Etihad Airways, they are entitled to sit in it for the whole journey but if it doesn’t, they will need to be held on a parent’s knee when the seatbelt sign is on. Etihad offers the chance to go “neighbour free” where you can select to reserve the rest of your row for optimal space and comfort. Infants are permitted to have one checked bag of 23kg if travelling to/from the USA and Canada, and 10kg to/from all other destinations as well as a cabin bag weighing up to 5kg. A pushchair, carrycot or car seat can also be brought on free of charge. The extra item cannot be longer than 115cm (length+height+width) and must weigh less than 7kg. In Business and First Class, a bassinet can be offered by the cabin crew for free when the seat belt sign is turned off, providing the baby fits the size and weight requirements.
