Are Mauritius Holidays Expensive?

Mauritius is considered a luxury destination, with prices often reflecting this. While it can be expensive if you wish to experience the opulent side of island living, there are certainly more budget-friendly options available if you’re looking to save some money. If you aren’t restricted as to when you can visit Mauritius, the low season is a wonderful time to enjoy more economical hotel rates, cheaper flights and maybe even discounted activities while still feeling the glorious sunshine. Travel in May, June or September to make use of these great deals. With a number of free activities on offer, you’ll be able to soak up everything this island has without breaking the bank. There are beaches aplenty, with stunning waters lapping up onto sugary white sands, intriguing market stalls on the streets of St Louis and wondrous temples to admire, like the Grand Bassin set aside a magnificent lake.

Can I Go All-Inclusive?

Indeed, you can enjoy an all-inclusive holiday in Mauritius, with numerous resorts catering to your every need. Relax in glorious sunshine without worrying about food and drink bills while the friendly hotel staff ensure everything is taken care of. Enjoy the complimentary restaurants, bars and cafes in your resort, taking the opportunity to try new things. Make use of all the sports and leisure facilities for endless fun in the sun. A host of hotels and resorts are conveniently situated along the beachfront, with many offering activities such as snorkelling, kayaking and glass bottom boat trips as part of the all-inclusive package. This means you can save your spending money for the plethora of excursions across the island, like ziplining, skydiving and guided hikes. Staying all-inclusive enables you to treat yourself to the most luxurious of holidays in a place regarded as heaven on earth.

How Long Should I Stay?

To ensure every sun-filled possibility is enjoyed and every sight is taken in, 7 to 14 days is recommended. This enables holidaymakers to take their time experiencing everything on their itinerary so that a lifetime of memories can be made. Spend your days travelling across the island from each tourist hotspot or relaxing on one of the mesmerising beaches, making use of all the amenities on offer. Direct flights from the UK take approximately 12 hours, so having at least one week booked makes your journey worth it, knowing you have plenty of time for fun in the sun. Staying longer would be better still, with Mauritius allowing visitors from the UK to visit for up to 60 days without a visa, fully immersing yourself in their rich culture and vibrant way of life. However long your holiday is, you’ll make unforgettable memories.

What Do I Need To Take?

With year-round sunshine and warm weather, make sure you pack lightweight beachwear. Even in the winter months temperatures don’t fall lower than 20℃ so it’s imperative you keep your clothing cool. With the numerous local beaches and dazzling swimming pools, plenty of swimwear options will be necessary. Evening wear should be considered, especially if you’re planning on dining in some of Mauritius’ high-class restaurants. Sandals will be perfect for chilled-out days, while walking shoes should also be remembered when wanting to experience some of the jaw-dropping nature hikes. With the tropical climate and high UV levels, it is important you bring sun protection, including cream, hats and lip balm. If travelling in the summer season, be advised that rain is highly likely and waterproofs will be essential. Plug adapters should be considered, with some hotels using the 3-pin plugs like the UK and some not.

Le Morne Brabant

What Are The Top Attractions?

Mauritius is the perfect spot to enjoy an activity-filled holiday, equipped with a plethora of out-of-this-world attractions. With spellbinding scenery, it’s clear why Mauritius offers so much adventure exploring its natural landscapes. Be guided up Le Morne Brabant, the 556m tall UNESCO world heritage site. Reach the peak to enjoy exceptional views of the Indian Ocean. Not far from here is the Seven Coloured Earth Geopark, where you can see the phenomenal multi-coloured sands. You’ll also find the tallest-single drop waterfall in Mauritius. Hike in the Black River Gorges National Park, admiring the variety of endemic flora and fauna unlike anywhere else. Experience the varying microclimates of the park, walking from the damp and rainy east to the dry west. For the adrenaline seekers, soar over Mauritius on the longest zipline in the Indian Ocean. For 1,500 metres, you can take to the sky in La Vallée des Couleurs.

Best Time To Visit

A perfect sunshine destination all year round, Mauritius has a milder climate than some tropical countries. Still maintaining a pleasant warmth, temperatures tend to remain in the 20s each month. This is ideal for high-energy activities and water sports. The summer falls between November and April, when the weather is at its hottest and most humid. You can enjoy fourteen hours of sunlight every day with temperatures hitting between 26℃ and 29℃ on the coast. Summer does experience more rainfall, with February being the wettest month. Hurricanes are to be expected between January and March. Winter, occurring between June and September, is the driest time of year, with temperatures dropping slightly. To avoid the peak of each season and to enjoy a sunny, warm and dry getaway, it is recommended to select a month in the middle of these, such as May. This is perfect for families who want fun in the sun but don’t want to worry about exceptionally high temperatures or rainstorms.
