Immerse yourself in pure natural beauty on an awe-inspiring Sabah Wildlife Sanctuaries tour. After arriving at Sandakan Airport you will transfer to your hotel in Sepilok. Depending on your arrival time, two optional tours are available to enjoy for an additional charge.
Optional tour: Rainforest Discovery Centre
Experience life in the rainforest canopy as you venture along the 347-metre long, 87-metre high walkway set amongst the tree line. Keep a lookout for some of the 250-300 bird species that call this habit home, as well as wild orangutan climbing in the branches. During your visit, you can also enjoy a Plant Discovery Walk, learning about the flora of the rainforest and the medicinal and traditional uses of some of the herbs and leaves that can be found there.
Optional tour: Labuk Bay Proboscis Monkey Sanctuary
Encounter the fascinating proboscis monkey, along with silver leafed monkeys,slow lorises, oriental-pied hornbills and more at this wonderful wildlife safe haven. Take in the activity at feeding time as the various animals get their fill at the food platform and learn about some of the delightful creatures that call Sabah home.

8.30am - Depart for the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre
Learn all about the world’s smallest bear species and get to witness these amazing creatures in their natural habitat. About 43 rescued animals and 1 captive born bear live in the centre, with observation platforms and boardwalks allowing guests to watch them at play.
10am - Sepilok Orang-Utan Rehabilitation Centre
A short walk from the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre, the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre is home to around 60 to 80 orangutans living freely in the reserve and about 25 orphaned animals housed in the nurseries. Arrive in time of the morning feeding session and get an insight into these incredible creatures, as well as the work being done to protect this critically endangered species.
11.15am - Depart for Kinabatangan River
An air conditioned minivan will take you and your guide to Sim Sim Jetty, where you will board your boat to sail up the Kinabatangan River towards Abai Jungle Lodge, 47km from the mouth of the waterway. On the voyage, you’ll sail through lush rainforest and have the opportunity to spot more of Sabah’s phenomenal wildlife.
1.15pm - Arrive at Abai Jungle Lodge
Check in to Abai Jungle Lodge and enjoy lunch in the resort. After eating you’ll be briefed on the planned activities by your guide, then given time to relax. During your time at the lodge keep an eye out for birds, monkeys and wild orangutans that can be spotted in the lush forest surroundings.
4.30pm - Kinabatangan River Cruise
Take to the waters of the Kinabatangan River in search of the wild and wonderful residents of the Lower Kinabatangan Reserve. Be on the lookout for proboscis monkeys, elephants, hornbills, gibbons and a variety of bird like. After dark you’ll get to witness the fireflies lighting up the rainforest.
Dinner will be served at the jetty overlooking Kinabatangan River,followed by an overnight stay at Abai Jungle Lodge.
6.30am - River Cruise to Pitas Oxbow Lake
An early start beckons for an unforgettable river cruise to Pitas Oxbow Lake. Having been cut off from the main river following a change of course, this crescent-shaped body of water provides a haven for a myriad of spectacular plants and animals taking advantage of the protective surroundings. Breakfast will follow at Abai Jungle Platform, at 8am.
10am - Tree Planting
Meet locals at Abai Village and take part in a tree planting project to help restore areas of forest affected by deforestation. You’ll then enjoy lunch in the village, arranged specially by local residents.
2pm - Depart for Sukau/Kinabatangan Riverside Lodge
Travel by boat upriver to Sakau and check in to the Kinabatangan Riverside Lodge. On arrival you’ll be briefed by the resort guide about the planned activities. Later in the afternoon you’ll get the opportunity to venture out to discover the local wildlife, taking advantage of a time when animals become more active.
Dinner will be served in the evening, followed by a video presentation about the Kinabatangan River’s rich ecosystem and biodiversity.
Overnight at Kinabatangan Riverside Lodge.
9am - Departure
Enjoy breakfast before checking out of the hotel and returning to Sandakan Airport by land, arriving at approximately 11am.
