I have stayed in many hotels, but The Colony takes the crown for one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had. Let me start with the positives: check-in was smooth, and the front desk staff were pleasant and welcoming. Unfortunately, that’s where the positives end.
The on-site restaurant plays loud music until 3 a.m., making it impossible to sleep, and just when you think you can get a few hours of rest, the music starts up again at 7 a.m. for breakfast. To make matters worse, the hotel is old and seems to have no soundproofing at all—you can hear every door slam, every footstep, and even the conversations in the next room.
The website claims the hotel offers laundry services. However, when I asked how I could wash my clothes, I was directed to a laundromat three blocks away. By that logic, they should advertise themselves as a gym since there’s one a block away or a museum because there’s one across the street.
While the location is admittedly great, nothing else about this hotel was. The sheets and bedding were stained, and I’m hoping those stains were from food. Perhaps they could take their linens to their "laundry service" down the street? On second thought, maybe that’s the problem.
Save your money and your sanity—stay anywhere but here.

This hotel offers excellent value for money. The location is right on Ocean Blvd. in the heart of the action. The ocean view room we got had great big windows to take in the lovely view. Very bright and you could feel the energy of South Beach. The service was wonderful from everyone we interacted with. We got in well before check in but since the room was already available it was only a short wait until we were in our room. The rooms are older and could use a refresh and, yes, it can get loud, especially since we were right on the beach side above the restaurant, but all in all, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Given the price we paid, we were very happy.

Some friends and I stayed at the Colony during Art Basel and the location and pricing was great! Right on the beach, close to many great food spots or convenience stores and shopping, and the hotel itself is an adorable blast-from-the-past art deco dream.
The rooms were a bit small with very limited privacy or personal space, but we made it work! I would not recommend more than 2 people per room if you’re not used to being in tight quarters with people who you don’t easily travel with.
The highlight of the hotel is def the attentive and helpful staff, especially Israel. He made sure we were always taken care of and I personally watched him assist elderly guests with their bags and helping them to their transportation, even when it was a few clicks away. The rest of the staff were amazing too, but Israel was such a gem.
Would definitely consider staying here again and will recommend to friends in the future.

We love this place. The location can’t be beat, the rooms are fantastic, and there is as much history here as there is hospitality. We LOVE Anna and Celine. From the moment we stepped in the door, we got service like we only find at the Little Nell in Aspen or the Four Seasons in Dallas. We booked our next visit before we checked out.

The Colony Hotel on Ocean Avenue has a great location in South Beach but the hotel itself was pretty underwhelming. However the service really stood out—everyone was incredibly kind and helpful. Especially Chris, the night shift receptionist deserves special mention for going out of his way to make our stay better. The hotel may not have been the best but the staff's dedication made a big difference.
Thanks @chris
P.S. the sheets and towels were nice fresh and clean
