Stayed at Don Marco for two days. This is a pretty basic mass tourism resort with evident cost minimisation theme. Air conditioning in rooms is quite poor; instead of the double bed I have explicitly requested upon booking the room came with two single beds. Also Don Marco is advertised as an adult-only hotel which is misleading - there are lots of children in the restaurant and pool areas. The whole area is very noisy with lots of machinery around and entertainment events blasting trashy music. Not a relaxing place.

Don’t touch the thermostat! Our room is 26 degrees and only pushes out heat! Our neighbors said their room is 31! No customer support to call on hotel phone or on mobile. Went to front desk to wait in line for 30 minutes only to be told to open up my door to cool it down. He said they don’t have aircon and can’t cool all the rooms. No other help. There are no signs saying the thermostat doesn’t cool. There is clearly a snowflake on it indicating it is cooling but it’s pushing heat. What do they do in the summer? I won’t stay here again.

We have just got back from a week at the Sol Torremolinos Don Marco and here’s my review on the good, bad, and helpful tips.
Arrival:
Nice and easy, front desk is easy to find and there’s a luggage room where you’re given a key if the room isn’t ready for you yet. At this point you don’t get any information about facilities etc. so you’re going to have to do your research beforehand or find it out as you go.
Pools:
There are 7 outdoor swimming pools with 1/2 of these being small and for young children. Also two hot tub jacuzzis. The great thing about the pools is the fact there are so many, you can do a different one each day. Yes they are small, but we didn’t see an issue with this as they were never too busy (we went in the school holidays in July/August). One thing I LOVED about the pools were the ‘towel police’. If you leave your sun lounger unattended for any point of time, you’ll get a note pegged into your towel stating if you aren’t back in 1 hour 15 minutes, your items will be deemed lost, and taken to the pool club house. Yes you might be just getting a drink and then notice you have a note, but it’s really not an issue as it’s designed for those people who ‘reserve’ a lounger and then leave it for hours unattended. The pool staff will take the stuff away too, we saw this multiple times but we thought this initiative was fantastic, and because of this, out of the 7 days, there was only one where we couldn’t get a lounger immediately, but we found one after 30 minutes. A couple of the pools water is rather salty and it’s worth mentioning although there are 2 pools which are classed as adult only as there’s no lifeguards, nobody checks these during the day so children will be in there although it’s less often.
3 Hotels:
It says there’s 3 hotels and there are. To be honest though, it’s as though it’s one massive hotel so don’t be out of that the Don Marco has no restaurant, the other two are close and you get a sense that it’s one huge hotel not 3 individual ones. It all looks lovely too!
Tips:
- download Uber before you go and have you passport number to hand (required by Spanish law). It’s so easy to use and better than finding taxis. We used Uber to go to Aqualand, the crocodile park, the marina and many more places and weren’t charged over €15.
- Make the most of the self service bar and food.
- Food times are: breakfast 8-11, lunch 13:30-15:30, dinner 19:00-22:00. Try both restaurants, one is much bigger but therefore much busier. We liked the small one for breakfast and the big one for dinner.
- Take some shoes comfortable for walking as the walks by the beach and to the old town are lovely no matter the time of day.
- It’s hot and parasols sometimes don’t always shade you so be wary of that.
- Try all the pools!
Overall, we would stay here again.

Would have been a five star review, however we had big issues with the house keeping. Twice they left our door open so anyone could walk into our hotel room. Be sure to use the safe so you don’t lose any valuables. Very worrying.
