We stayed at Goldi Sands in February, the room was basic but good enough for our stay. We were in the older part of the hotel. Very clean and quiet. The service was first class, nothing was too much trouble. All the staff made our holiday that more special. The food was lovely, always spoilt for choice. They always had live music through out dinner which was a lovely touch. Excellent location to relax or tour. We are already looking forward to returning again next year. Highly recommend! We stayed at Golden Sands Beach for 10 nights, and unfortunately, it was one of the worst experiences we've had. We expected warmth and hospitality but instead witnessed disturbing behavior. Staff members were seen throwing stones at dogs, kicking them, chasing them, and using sticks. This kind of treatment is absolutely unacceptable. When I requested to speak with the general manager, he claimed that this was supposedly the hotel’s policy and that water was used to drive the dogs away, which clearly wasn't the case. We are not the first to complain about this, and yet, nothing was done. I also raised concerns about the considerable food waste displayed on a sign showing the monthly amount wasted and suggested they feed the dogs, but once again, I was told it was against their policy. The reason the dogs come around is that they are hungry and thirsty, especially in 35-degree heat without access to water. We have pictures documenting the staff’s abuse of the animals. In 2025, animal cruelty should never be accepted. Furthermore, the room cleaning was consistently late, and while some staff members were kind and helpful, this was not the case for everyone. We left feeling deeply disappointed. There was also excessive noise at night and a very poor internet connection.

I recently stayed at this hotel and, unfortunately, had a very disappointing experience. We were charged for a Deluxe Room, but upon arrival, we were allocated a Standard Room instead. Even if it was indeed a Standard Room, the quality did not meet the expectations of a 4-star hotel—the room was far below acceptable standards in terms of cleanliness, comfort, and overall condition. I have attached photos as proof to support my feedback. For fellow travelers considering this hotel: I strongly advise exploring other options. There are better places that truly offer the quality and service they promise.

A wonderful hotel in the style of the colonial era. Excellent beach and great location. Great hotel service, a manager who cares about quality and relations with clients (polite, cordial and professional). Hotel, garden, beach and pool - all wonderfully maintained. Excellent food. And great location. I recommend to everyone!

Had a short, one night stay here after flying into columbo ready for a tour. Rooms were ok, clean and functional. Location is very good, right on the beach - staff friendly and attentive. Food was average and not as exciting as the menu made out, but good to sit and watch the sun go down over the beach with a drink. Breakfast buffet was varied and tasted good too.
