Extremely Disappointing Stay at Hilton Garden Inn Tribeca
I stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn New York Tribeca from November 13-17, 2024, for the National Black Pre-Law Conference, and my experience was absolutely unacceptable for a Hilton property.
1. Heating Issues: My room had NO functional heat for nearly the entire stay. I reported it multiple times, yet nothing was done until late Saturday afternoon—after spending three freezing nights in the middle of winter. I had to run hot showers and take hot baths just to stay warm. The hotel’s solution? A blanket, a bag of chips, and a bottle of wine.
2. Overcharged Room Rate: I booked under the conference’s discounted rate of $249/night but was charged over $1,750 for the stay. Despite providing proof of the discounted rate, the hotel refused to honor it.
3. Poor Customer Service: The staff was dismissive and unhelpful. The manager even demanded additional payment despite the unresolved heating issue and failed to take responsibility for the situation.
4. Facility Problems: Only one elevator was working during a busy weekend, causing long wait times. Several other guests reported broken appliances like microwaves and coffee makers.
5. No Housekeeping Service: My room was never cleaned during my entire stay. I had to deal with unmade beds, full trash cans, and no replenished towels, which only added to the frustration. I did request for my room to be cleaned but no one showed up.
Hilton’s promise to “make it right” was completely unfulfilled during my stay. The compensation offered—a certificate for one free night and 7,000 Hilton Honors points—does not begin to address the financial discrepancy or the discomfort I endured.
I expected far better from Hilton and will not recommend this property to anyone. If you value your comfort and good service, I suggest looking elsewhere.

Nice hotel for good price for Manhattan with adequate room size (bigger than others there). Clean, comfortable. Friendly staff, they kept our luggage before check-in and also after the check-out. Metro line A (that goes to JFK) entrance just right next to the hotel, which was a big plus as we didn't wanted a ride/car due traffic jams, but metro was quick and with a/c, really a plus!

I had a similar experience to the one below. We had paid extra for the premium room with snacks and drinks and even though I called for them, we only received it the first of 5 nights. I’d like a refund for the money I screwed out of. Plus house keeping only came the last night (of 5 nights) at 6pm when my daughter was in the shower. I had to call twice for towels and I explained that housekeeping had not been by. Our trash was overflowing. Also, they only have one working elevator which causes so much waiting time!! This was not my usual Hilton experience. I’m quite disappointed.

We have stayed at this hotel a bunch of times over the years, most recently in Oct 2024. There are a lot of great things about it and some not-so-great things. The front desk staff are very friendly, and the rooms are very clean. They are surprisingly spacious for Manhattan hotel rooms. We have stayed at much fancier places with much smaller rooms where 2 people literally couldn't walk around at the same time. The HGI Tribeca rooms are not huge, but they are comfortable for 2 adults. The bed was comfy, but the pillows are pretty flat and insubstantial (ask for extras), and the pseudo-duvet or whatever that thing is supposed to be is a travesty and the layers come apart and twist and rotate in different directions as soon as you get in the bed (though that is chain-wide, not just this location. But Hilton, they are AWFUL.)
Housekeeping is hit or miss. They will only even theoretically come every other day, but on the days your room is supposed to be cleaned, they may not show up till 4pm or later, even if you ask them to come earlier.
We have had consistently terrible experiences at the restaurant, so we don't even try to eat there anymore. For breakfast, the Square Diner is very close and it's a good choice.
The hotel's location is the best thing and the worst thing. It is very convenient to a lot of things, and the A/C/E, 1, 2, and various other trains are within 5-10 minutes. The A/C/E is literally right outside the door, and couldn't be more convenient. Lots of restaurants and cafes in the area, plus Little Italy and Chinatown.
The bad thing is that it is a low-rise hotel on a VERY busy street, and even worse, there is a police substation or parking lot or something RIGHT across the street, and so there are sirens blaring and blooping and screeching from dawn till after midnight, especially on the weekend, plus constant honking at all hours. If you are a light sleeper at all, ask for a room NOT facing the street, even if it means you are looking directly into another building. We have had both and trust me, there is not going to be a good view of anything no matter where in the building you are, but the noise on the street side is insane. Pick the view of the brick wall, at least it will be quiet! Or bring earplugs. I had to sleep in them every night.

Location was perfect for getting around NYC. Towels were never replaced if that’s important to you. Front staff friendly and helpful hotel was clean and safe.
