Peeping Tom - beware fellow female travelers
Subject: Request for Response and Action Following Privacy Violation at Sandy Haven, Negril
Dear Ms.Chinn and Sandy Haven Management,
I am writing to express my deep concern regarding an incident that I recently came across online involving a guest at Sandy Haven. As a female traveler, I feel it is important to share this experience in the hopes of preventing such an unfortunate event from happening to others, especially regarding the safety and privacy of female guests.
According to a public post, a male staff member at Sandy Haven opened a guest’s bathroom window while she was inside, leading to an alarming invasion of privacy. Unfortunately, the hotel’s response to this incident has raised serious concerns. Specifically, the staff confronted the guest without proper support, and no immediate actions were taken to ensure her safety after she reported the issue. This lack of follow-up and failure to address the issue promptly is unacceptable.
I would like to bring the following points to your attention:
1. Inappropriate Confrontation – It was reported that the guest was asked to point out the staff member who invaded her privacy and was then confronted by him. This direct interaction was incredibly distressing and compounded the trauma of the situation.
2. Failure to Take Action – Despite a formal report being made, the accused staff member continued to work on the premises, leaving the guest feeling unsafe for the rest of her stay.
3. No Follow-Up – After filing the report, the guest received no follow-up from the management or any apology, which indicates a lack of concern for guest well-being.
As a concerned traveler, I would like to know what steps Sandy Haven is taking as of December 4, 2024 (or December 12, 2024), to ensure such an incident is not repeated. Specifically, I am requesting the following:
• A clear explanation of the actions taken to retrain your staff on the importance of respecting guest privacy and how to handle such situations in a professional and empathetic manner.
• Assurance that proper security measures, such as surveillance cameras in vulnerable areas, will be implemented to ensure the safety of all guests.
• Information on how you plan to address guest safety concerns and follow-up protocols, to ensure a transparent and thorough response in the future.
This is not only important for the well-being of future guests but also for restoring the reputation of Sandy Haven. It is my hope that the management will take appropriate action to prevent such incidents and demonstrate a commitment to guest safety and privacy.
I look forward to hearing from you regarding the steps being taken to resolve this issue and the actions taken to prevent such violations in the future.
Sincerely,
A Concerned Female Traveler

Fabulous location, good service, truly lovely place. I was advised this is a bed and breakfast. They offer complimentary continental breakfast including a mimosa! 😋
Rum punch was served as a welcome beverage!
The bar was a little over priced but is to be expected on the tourist area. We enjoyed our time here and will definitely return.

Awful place. It’s a home to 7 mile beach hustlers and hagglers. Stay as far away as possible and do NOT bring children here. Most five star reviews you see are fraudulent

We are very well-traveled and can accept some issues regarding our accommodations. However, this stay was a horror show. On a return trip to this “resort” we were so disappointed that the hotel environment (the property itself) was is in significant disrepair and neglect. We spent the first 3 days of our stay in the reception area, on the phone or in discussions with management (when they could be found) trying to have the air conditioning repaired. The staff seemed despondent and their work environment oppressive. The hotel lost a good chef and now the food itself was tasteless and, at times inedible. The food service was extremely slow. The rooms were in disrepair and the pool was consistently dirty. After several discussions with the owner, Ms Chen and the elusive Mr. Robinson (who was consistently either “not in his office or was at lunch) no alternative room or compromise on the bill was offered. Based upon her words and behavior, Ms. Chen apparently thinks customer service is a thing of the past and was extremely curt and rude. We checked out early and found a nice hotel and escaped a miserable situation. Unless you enjoy disrepair and bad management, go anywhere else.

NOT LUXURY but has the potential to be with better care and management. First, the location is awesome, sits right on the walkable beach near shops, food, bars, music, etc. On the 2nd day of our 5 day stay, a strong storm came through and pushed piles and piles and piles of seaweed all along the coast, making it impossible to get in the water at all or enjoy the beach. THE PROBLEM WAS neither the hotel's pool nor jacuzzi were clean or operational, so we could not use them!!!! (We sat watching guests next door at the COCO PALMS RESORT enjoy their pool and having a blast). The nice cabanas in the website pics were dirty and gross. Basically, all the pics on their website over represented the place. I was really disappointed that they made NO effort to clean up the amenities that they advertised so that guests could have a decent time and AT LEAST get what we paid for. The "free" breakfast was hardly worth the trouble of sitting down for, better to go to a nearby restaurant and pay. The food I ordered from Bongos on the first night (jamaican pasta) was delicious, but the entire menu is too overpriced. On a good note, the Bongos staff are hard workers and super nice.
But overall, I feel ripped off! Basically paid $1200 for a place to lay our heads and shower but nothing more. This is nothing against the staff at the resort. Most were very professional. But NO, I would never book here again, nor would I advise you to either. Trust me, you can do better.
Also forgot to add that one evening we did not have hot water and the electricity would flicker and briefly cut off a few times during our stay.
Overall, Jamaica was as beautiful as always, and the people are such a pleasure to connect with ❤️.
