The resort is located in Batu Ferringhi which makes travelling to Georgetown where most of the attractions are located difficult, especially during the holidays. Beyond that, the service is fantastic, the buffet has good variety and there are plenty of activities in the resort for kids. The food just across the hotel is decent if you don’t want to travel to Georgetown. The beach view is beautiful

Very fast and efficient check in from the front counter. Thanks to Win especially for his excellent service. The room is spacious but need to upgrade it's furnishings badly. This resort is best for those with family and kids !

Shangri-La Golden Sands, Penang is an attractive 4-star resort located on the beautiful Batu Ferringhi Beach. This family-friendly resort offers a variety of facilities and activities that cater to both adults and children, making it an ideal destination for a relaxing holiday. Our favourite hotel in the area because their cafe serves the best morning and evening buffets and a wide selection. If you are at the pool, the restaurant there also serves the best menu options. They also have a lot of pools, from the shallowest to adults, with a depth of 3 meters. But don't worry, the pool keeper team is very large. They also have a team of massage therapists who will massage you by the pool and the garden.

Poorly maintained bathroom and toilets. My kids didn’t want to use them. Very poor overall service level. Bad experience at pool side towels service as I was requesting for two replacement towels due to stains on the towels to begin with, was rudely rejected and was warned I m not allowed to get replacement. Won’t be back again and won’t be recommending anyone to stay here. I have had way better experiences in other Shangri-la hotels.

This hotel is great for family vacation. I have to give props to the well-maintained splash pool, slides and kids pool as my son really enjoys his swimming there. Also, there was a Saxaphone performance in the weekend during evening time which makes the pool atmosphere more fun and livelier. I would also want to add that the Adventure Zone was such a delight. Not only were the rides fun, but adults can also play inside the playground with the kids which does help little ones to have courage and play at such a big playground area. All and all, I'm super satisfied with this hotel and would definitely come again. :)

Impressed that after more than a decade the swimming pool area is still well maintained. Breakfast is adequate, fruits are my favourite. There is a game room for the kid adult. The beach is more suitable for morning/evening strolls. Parking space in the hotel runs out fast but there is another one nearby with pick-up provided.

Stayed one night as a stopover for our road trip. Was a pity that it was raining most of the time so we had very short time at the pool. Life guards on duty all the time so pretty safe for children. Service is superb but food choices somehow very limited. My kids love the family room where they would have their own bunk beds and we could borrow games for the PS4 in the room, so I guess it works out well.

Spend time here with my family and relatives. It was 3 nights of enjoyable stay even though I didn't do much. My room was pool side view. Even though the weather was a bit on the wet side but that didn't stop the children enjoying in the pool. The breakfast provided in the room package was superb. Lots and lots of delicious food variety. I missed it already. The Fender guitars, head phones and mini amp available from the teen club was just great. I was impressed of the Beatles theme at the hotel as they are still my fav band. Rooms portraying graphic rock artistes on the walls are just what a Hard Rock Hotel meant. These few things certainly are not available in any other normal hotels. Kudos to the management, food and beverage dept. Hoping to come back here in the future.

Outstanding service from check-in to check-out, lots of extra little ‘touches’ made it a special stay. We took the ‘Rock Royalty’ option - absolutely worth it, the lounge has amazing views and even better food! Swim-out/pool access room was perfect in the hot weather. Enjoyed a couples’ treatment at the spa - divine 💖 and experienced a delicious 3 course dinner in a private cabana. As music lovers we enjoyed the tunes too. Although we didn’t take children with us on this trip, it also looked very child-friendly (for both young children and teens). The only downside - the beach looks amazing but the jellyfish mean that you can’t swim in the water. That doesn’t detract from the hotel though, we would absolutely stay there again for a short getaway.

Really nice hotel with a great location and a nice view. Great and smiley staff, great service. The Downside is you can not swim in the ocean, too many jelly fish. Also down side is plastic sunbeds, very uncomfortable. Only the few that had mattresses were really good and comfy. Also alcohol is quite pricey at the hotel. By the name of the hotel, I did not expect that it would be too children friendly. A lot of kids were around and inside the pool, but it was still enjoyable when you were by the pool. I do recommend staying in this hotel

I would love to give a higher rating for my two-night stay here, but several things didn’t meet expectations considering the reputation and cost of this place. - The sheets and pillows were mouldy, and we came home with acne, which I suspect was because of this. - It wasn’t particularly clean, especially the hot tub on the balcony, which looked neglected. The furniture also felt a bit outdated. - Service was slow. We had to call twice when requesting something, and even then, they didn’t bring everything we asked for. - While I understand this might be outside the hotel’s control, the beach area in front of the hotel was crowded with tents from vendors offering water sports and massages, which made it hard to just relax and enjoy the beach. On the bright side, the view from the balcony was nice, and location was really good as it was within walking distance to other beach bars. Breakfast was okay in that they offered dairy-free milk options for their coffee. Overall, it wasn’t a terrible stay, but it didn’t feel worth the cost.

Overall had a pleasant experience. The hotel facilities were impeccably clean, and the service was both friendly and prompt, which made the stay comfortable. However, I was disappointed with the high tea experience. The tea lacked flavor due to a single tea bag being used in a large pot, and the accompanying food seemed to be recycled from the breakfast buffet either that morning or the previous day. It didn’t feel worth the price. On a positive note, my family and I made great use of the entertainment room, especially enjoying the ping pong table, which we used thoroughly during our stay. Unfortunately, one downside was the unpleasant smell coming from a public stream that passed near our room. I would still recommend for its clean facilities, attentive staff, and overall convenient location. It was a good experience, but there’s definitely room for improvement.

Here’s a possible review you could use: I recently stayed at Lone Pine in Penang, expecting a high standard experience in line with the Marriott Tribute Portfolio, but I was quite disappointed. The room condition did not meet the exclusive standards usually associated with Marriott. There were noticeable issues, particularly in the bathroom, which had mold – something completely unacceptable for a hotel in this category. Additionally, the overall room upkeep was lacking, with wear and tear that detracted from the premium experience I expected. For the price point and the reputation of Marriott, I had higher expectations for cleanliness and room quality. Although the location and general ambiance of the hotel were pleasant, the upkeep and cleanliness of the rooms need serious attention. I hope the management considers improving these aspects, as the potential for a great stay is certainly there.

Great place to slow down & unwind” Good sized rooms that were very comfortable, great staff, general ambience was comfortable and relaxing. The kids loved the ping pong table. If I had any comment to make, the shower tiles need regrouting and the shower glass needs a better scrub to remove the build up of soap scum. But honestly my family and I had a great stay. Definitely worth coming back too.
