From famous beaches and legendary landmarks, to incredible theme parks and superstar scenery, this phenomenal Californian city ticks all the boxes.
Possibly the most famous LA neighbourhood is Hollywood. As well as being the movie capital of the world, it’s also the place to take in some of the city’s best known sights. Search out your favourite film, TV show or star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, or size up the hand prints of big name actors and actresses outside Grauman’s Chinese Theatre. A wide variety of movie memorabilia and props are on show at the Hollywood Museum, while the iconic Hollywood sign can be seen in the hills nearby.
As well as awe-inspiring sights, Los Angeles is also renowned for its incredible beaches. While the shores of Venice with its boardwalk, Santa Monica with its pier, and Malibu with its millionaires, may be among the best known, visitors will also find a host of other incredible stretches of sand, including Huntington City Beach, El Matador State Beach, Manhattan Beach and Dockweiler State Beach among others.
If fun and excitement is more your thing, you might prefer to pay a visit to one of Los Angeles’ many theme parks. Family-friendly rides, attractions and Mickey Mouse can be found at Disneyland, in Anaheim, while Knott’s Berry Park, in nearby Buena Park, or Six Flags Magic Mountain, in Santa Clarita, offer great roller coasters. Universal Studios Hollywood is a great choice for movie-themed thrills, while Warner Bros. Studios offers an action-packed behind the scenes look as the city’s entertainment industry.
From street food to fine dining, Los Angeles’ culinary offering is as diverse as it is dynamic, with cuisines from all around the globe on the menu across the city and dishes to suit absolutely every palate. Whether you’re seeking a quick eat, a laid-back lunch or intimate dinner, you’ll find all this and more in this wonderful destination.
For a venue with real star appeal, head to Canter’s Deli, in Central LA. Here you can sample mouth-watering sandwiches and baked goods, and you might even spot a celebrity diner while you’re at it.
Other famous eateries include Miceli’s, the oldest Italian restaurant, in Hollywood, and Pink’s Hotdogs, in the same neighbourhood.
A host of Mexican treats can be enjoyed at the Mexican Market, on Olvera Street, while tantalising Korean barbeque fare is on the menu at Park’s BBQ in Koreatown.
Those with a more discerning palate should, of course, head to Beverly Hills. Here US celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck serves up a delectable fine dining experience at Spago.
Los Angeles also offers an array of superb vegan and vegetarian restaurants, ensuring every visitor is fuelled up and ready to enjoy a sensational holiday in California.
More commonly known as the Oscars, the award ceremony celebrating excellence in the film industry is held every year, in February or March, at the Dolby Theatre.
