Do not stay here. We had our wedding here and the function room and catering was very good. However, I would suggest to you if you decide to do your event here do not stay in the hotel. It is a dump. On our first night we had to change rooms twice. The first room air conditioning was stuck at 27 degrees (219). The second room the bed was like lying on a table, very uncomfortable (354). The worst part is the attitude of the staff, we asked for our room to be cleaned and the lady said "but why, you're checking out tomorrow..." and then she did not want to change our towels. She also took our used cups out of the room and just left outside our room. So eventually to avoid insects we took them to reception ourselves. My mother in law's room had a room next door which the staff were using to smoke in. As much as we had a nice wedding celebration it was heavily tainted by the experience of the hotel and we left feeling very sad and disappointed.

Disappointing Stay at Mount Lavinia Hotel We checked in today and were immediately disappointed. We didn’t receive the hospitality, professionalism and warmth we received everywhere else in SriLanka. All staff from reception to dining service were indifferent. The hallway leading to our room was dreary, smelled strongly of dampness and mold, and looked outdated and poorly maintained. Unfortunately, the room was no better—it had a musty, moldy odor, visible black mold in the bathroom, and thick dust on the toilet paper holder, which spoke volumes about the hotel's cleanliness standards. The entire room felt damp and sticky, that after some time in the room I started coughing. The cough was so bad I ended up throwing up twice. We requested a room change, but the alternative they provided was on the same floor and only slightly better. While the smell was a bit less intense, the bedding had suspicious stains, making us question whether it had even been properly cleaned. The only redeeming factor was the ocean view (which we paid extra for), but even that wasn’t worth enduring the poor conditions. The hotel desperately needs major upgrades, deep cleaning, and proper staff training before it can justify its four-star rating. I would not recommend staying here until significant improvements are made. Save your money and choose a hotel that values hygiene and guest comfort.

The hotel was once one of the best in Asia, known for excellent service provided by its long-standing staff. Unfortunately, the current standards have fallen far below expectations. The staff require proper training—perhaps at a three- or four-star hotel—to understand what quality service truly means. During my stay in rooms 344 and 356, both days were disappointing. Room service was practically non-existent (calls went unanswered), and we had to repeatedly request basic amenities such as towels. The service overall lacked professionalism. In the dining area, the F&B Manager failed to display any signage regarding wet floors near the pool, which is a clear safety concern. Instead of addressing the issue professionally, she acted rudely and even told my son to leave the cold room—behavior that was completely unacceptable. Due to these experiences, we cancelled the rest of our stay. While the hotel still offers beautiful views, it is unreasonable to pay premium prices for scenery alone. Until management improves staff training, room maintenance, and overall service quality, I cannot recommend this hotel to anyone

We recently stayed at Mount Lavinia Hotel on a full board basis, and it was truly a memorable experience. As a family, we have always cherished this place—especially since we had our wedding here 19 years ago. Over the years, we’ve frequently visited for their dinner, lunch, and high tea buffets, but this was our first time booking a full board stay for family. The food was absolutely delicious and exceeded our expectations, just like every other visit. It’s definitely worth the money considering the variety and quality of the meals. Our booking was made on 30th July for our stay on 15th August. While the room reservation process could use some improvement, the hotel staff kindly upgraded us to a suite without us even requesting it, which was a pleasant surprise. However, the suite only had a double bed, and we had to wait a few hours to get additional beds arranged. It would be great if the reservation team could pay more attention to room allocations, especially when families are involved. Aside from that, everything else was perfect. The ambience, service, food, and the nostalgic charm of Mount Lavinia Hotel made this stay truly special for our family. Highly recommended!

Hotel lavinia Room 155 Ac not working Shower not working No jet spray Exhaust not working Mini fridge ice was accumulated Bed sheets had stain Had to call multiple times for maintenance, room cleaning etc Followup multiple times stayed in mount lavinia hotel from july 3 to july 5 with my family. We stayed in ocean view rooms and the amenities in the room all required repairing. As soon as we entered the room 1. There was smell in the room and bedsheets had stain marks that we immediately had to ask for replacement since we had infant with us. 2. AC was not working and maintenance guy just cleaned the ac shaft and said it is working. We had to ask them to bring table fan for cooling 3. Bathroom exhaust didn’t work at all and even hotel maintenance guy didn’t have any clue on fixing it. 4. Minibar was not cool enough 5. Outdoor room cleaning was terrible. A whole day on either side of our room there were food plates kept outside and no one was bothered to pick that up leading to stinking smell . Our 2 nights stay were horrible due to this . We had to spent our energy continuously calling reception and maintenance with no timely response Only good thing about hotel is the beach side location and instagram friendly views that you can take. i would not recommend this hotel if you are looking for a comfortable stay and enjoy because both of the rooms that we booked were terrible. Definitely not the experience we expected out from a 4 star hotel. We have provided the same feedback to hotel reception but they just forwarded it to their complaints team with not an ounce of apology for the inconvenience caused.
