We stay here for our annual 2 week holiday. We have a one bed apartment on the top floor overlooking both the Lido pool and Funchal bay-2 terraces. All the apartments now have air con in the bedrooms. Kitchen is perfectly equipped with everything you need for a light breakfast or lunch preparation. Beds are super comfy and we have numerous pillows to pick from. Staff are friendly and approachable. Poolside is cleaned daily, not a spot of litter anywhere. Views from sunbathing loungers lovely, a changing scene every minute. Very peaceful and quiet-no loud music or such like. Come and find your happy place!

Great location and beautiful setting for a relaxing holiday. Highlights are the professional, friendly staff and fantastic sea views, with plenty of sunny and shady places to lounge by the pool (with direct access to a good snorkelling spot too). Breakfast has been quite nice and has a broad selection of good baked goods, fruits, salad(!), juices, egg station etc. My only criticism is that there seem to be no dairy free milk or yogurt options and the meat quality could be better. Overall a great stay. Thank you to the staff and to Gaudino in particular for being so warm and attentive throughout our whole time here :)

We had an amazing stay! Members of the staff were welcoming, friendly, and attentive. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the atmosphere was relaxing from start to finish. The location was perfect, and every detail made the experience truly enjoyable. Highly recommend!

Overall, we really enjoyed our stay at the Pestana. However, I would rate it more as a 4-star hotel rather than a 5-star. Our main disappointment was the breakfast. Although the variety is decent, the presentation and hygiene really fell short, especially given the number of guests. The pancake and egg stations, in particular, were not clean at all, and the bowls and serving areas around them didn’t look appealing. It felt like no one was in charge of keeping the buffet tidy and refreshed throughout the service, which really impacted the experience. Having someone dedicated to maintaining cleanliness and presentation during breakfast would make a huge difference and would be normal. Aside from that, the hotel has a lot of positives : the pool area is beautiful, being right on the sea is a huge plus, and the rooms are spacious, modern, and very comfortable.

Falls Short of a 5-Star Standard I booked this hotel with the expectation of a genuine 5-star experience, but sadly, it fell well short in several key areas. Service: Despite placing the “Please clean the room” sign on our door every morning, housekeeping only attended to our room after 4pm, and only when reminded. At this level, one expects proactive, timely service without repeated prompts. Cleanliness: This was the most disappointing aspect. A cockroach was found in the bathroom, and dead bugs were visible around the breakfast buffet area. These are issues one should never encounter in any reputable hotel, let alone a property claiming 5 stars. Breakfast & Coffee: The breakfast selection and quality were underwhelming compared to other 5-star hotels I have visited. The coffee was particularly poor — a strange mixture from a machine that combined all the tastes. Overall: While the hotel may have the outward appearance of a luxury property, the service, cleanliness, and food quality are more in line with a 4-star rating at best. There is potential here, but significant improvements are needed before it can truly justify its 5-star status
