Firstly I should say the staff here are very friendly and attentive. The duty manger especially made attempts to improve our stay.
Far better than booking.com who rather shamefully simply ignored our concerns completely!! Eventually offering us a €10 gesture, pathetic!
PortBlue isn’t necessarily a bad resort, it would perhaps fit better in a 2 or possibly 3-star rating. Our issue is it is mis-sold as a first-class 4-star resort and spa, this it is NOT.
My wife and I spent 5 days here following our wedding on the island and was in effect our honeymoon and why we selected a ‘4-star resort and spa’ as a bit of a treat with the added bonus of a kids club for our little one.
This is our feedback;
- Less resort and spa more euro-camp
- wrist bands given as keys is not 4-star, what I would expect from a campsite. Very tacky
- Outdoor pools have been taken over by ducks from the nature reserve meaning feathers and bird poo everywhere. Unswimmable due to hygiene
- The parasols around the pool are old and mould stained
- food from the pool bar, albeit ‘snack food’ is more akin to a greasy burger van and not 4-star resort quality
- smell of the adjacent toilets meaning dining by the pool is really not pleasurable
- Our room was adjacent to the main road - not safe with toddler
- Busy road noisy throughout day and night - worth noting to get to the beach you have to navigate crossing this dangerous road. If you have a car it’s even quite hard getting out of the resort due to the speed of traffic.
- As the road divides the resort from the beach I do not think this can fairly be advertised as a beachside resort.
- Car park is a nightmare! Narrow and very hard to navigate - if you are lucky enough to find a space!
- Offered an alternative room closer to the centre of the resort when speaking at the hotel desk but overheard other guests complaining about the noise from the entertainment every night
- Room itself was fine, very very basic. Floors and walls paper thin so you can hear your neighbours swatting mosquitoes, moving furniture and even switching light switches!
- Room was cleaned with bleach so stank of chemicals plus the floor was left wet. Not nice to come back to
- Buffet breakfast was pretty poor quality. Again no more than 2-star quality. The fruit juices were absolutely disgusting! Never experienced orange, pineapple or apple juices like it. Absolutely repugnant
- The best thing about the site was the mini-market. Very well stocked and our toddler loved it.
- We didn’t dare use the spa facilities so can’t comment however the first thing you see upon arrival to the spa building is a huge pile of dirty towels! Again far below expected standards
- Staff roam the site on a fleet of golf buggies on shared paths which terrified our little boy so much he wanted to be carried everywhere.
This is NOT a 4-star ‘resort and spa’. It is a holiday camp and a dirty one at that. Worst place we’ve EVER stayed. Unfortunately I cannot recommend in any way.

We spent 10 days in this hotel at the beginning of September. The hotel has some good points:
+ Booking through their website was quite easy and you could even request a specific room.
+ Online check-in speeds up the check-in at the hotel itself.
+ The hotel staff is very nice.
+ The sea is a few meters in front of the hotel so you have a nice view
+ The resort is large and is adorned with beautiful gardens, plants, fountains and animals.
+ There is a wide range of activities: Several swimming pools, tennis, spa, massages, gym, 8 pool etc.
+ There are only adults areas, which is great good because there are also many (small) children in the hotel.
+ Our ant problem was solved quickly.
+ The massage (Ocean Signature) was great and I can only recommend it. (Unfortunately I didn't remember the name of the masseuse, otherwise I would definitely recommend her)
+ There are great evening programs
+ The staff put notes on cars that are parked incorrectly (in 2 parking spaces) so that more parking spaces are available (there are several parking spaces, but the one closest to us was often full).
Some points that bothered us:
(-) The room was not completely clean when we arrived. You could still feel sand and dirt from the previous guest. There were some black spots on the walls (which were probably caused by mosquitoes that had been killed).
(-) Even during our stay, cleaning was not always done properly: You could still feel sand and dirt when you walked barefoot. However, it depended on which cleaner was cleaning.
(-) The door frame in our room was not completely sealed. This allowed ants to enter through our door after a storm. (the problem was taken seriously and solved quickly).
(-) Even after the storm it dripped from the roof in our room, but stopped later.
(-) We didn't like the quality of the food at all. There is a lot of choice, but the taste of everything was weak and it didn't taste fresh. Fortunately, we had only booked breakfast and only tried the evening buffet once.
(-) There was mowing in the morning shortly after 09:00, which caused a lot of noise and disturbed a longer sleep.
(-) The location itself is not ideal if you don't have a rental car. Beautiful nearby beaches and towns are only accessible by bus or rental car.
(-) One evening there was a fire alarm in the building where our hotel room was located. I found the staff response worryingly slow. I alerted the reception and they sent someone who didn't show up for several minutes. Even if it was just a false alarm, I think a quick response is necessary for the case of a real emergency.
(-) The market in the hotel does not have a large selection and I think the prices are too high.

Just spent 10 days at Port Blue hotel very disappointing expected 4 star more like 3
Room I - 07 was very shabby tho cleaner was good. Broken mirror taped up, curtains didn't fit ripped blackout curtain, shower head kept falling down. Ducks in the adult pool, duck poo in & out of pool. Grounds attractive but needed more cleaning. Food in restaurants Luke warm. On a more positive note the beds were very comfy. This hotel really needs an upgrade in lots of areas. Certainly not worth the amount of money we paid
Just a Stranger
We stayed there for 10 days, the rooms are clean and comfortable.
The location isn’t great, no beach and inaccessible without a car.
The staff is completely rude and impossible to talk with, they completely ignored us while we were standing at the bar and instead rudely commanded us to sit down. When we parked in the last spot at the parking, although not the most convenient one but also not bothering anyone, the parking staff yelled at us and demanded we parked somewhere else. At our attempts to reason with them they just continued yelling the same things over and over while being extremely condescending

I loved this place. I spent 9 days here and ugh I can make it my home! The staff are amazing, Natalia at the baby club is the sweetest person ever who kept my baby busy during the day while I got a chance to tan and read and go to the spa. Everyone from service to cutting grass to whatever everyone was so nice to us.
I will say however, if you have kids you need to be the buffet type of crowd it’ll be difficult to get food from inside the resort in my opinion unless it’s at the buffet at set times throughout the day. Meaning you’ll have limited options of timings unless you leave the resort. However, when you’re at the buffet they have many options to choose from. We even got a chance to experience barbecue night!
