The New Yorker A Wyndham Hotel

Very cool historic hotel 2 blocks from Penn Station and very close to several subway lines. Great bagel shops across the street, and lots of restaurants (from inexpensive but great tacos or pizza to nicer sit-down places) within a few blocks. And a short walk to Times Square and all the theaters. Rooms were very small (at least the regular Queen room) but good use of space, including a nice bathroom, closet, and plenty of drawers. Bed was comfortable, room quiet, and windows open for fresh air. As a bonus, very fast elevators and lots of them. I also appreciated the security, including the need to show a hotel key card to get access to the elevators. There are just a few negatives which I must mention, and which pushes the hotel to 4* instead of 5*. First, they need more staff at the registration desk during busy times, with long waits to check in and check out. And second, charging $5 per bag for bag check is unreasonable, and the first time I've ever paid for bag check (even worse since I end up not tipping due to the bag fee so the workers get screwed). And it is mentioned when booking, but don't miss the $40 per night "resort" fee, which they should just include in the rate and raise the rate $40. Oh, and be sure take 10 minutes to go down to the basement, where they have some cool exhibits on the very interesting history of the hotel.

My sister and I stayed for 5 nights at the New Yorker Hotel this July. The room was very rundown, outdated, and extremely small, with not even a shelf in the bathroom to put your toiletries. Yes, the location was good; however, I have stayed in New York before at places with good locations and hotels of similar prices that were much better. Apart from the condition of the room, the staff were extremely rude. I understand they are busy; however, l think they forget we are paying guests. The check-in staff were very unhelpful and rude; the only staff member who was courteous was the lovely man at the front door. I would never stay at this hotel again

I did not have the best experience at this hotel. We booked two rooms with queen-sized beds, but instead were given one room with a double bed and the other with a “queen-sized” bed, which was a little bit smaller than the double bed. We had paid about $500 just for us to be given extremely small rooms with very outdated furniture and design. The pictures of the rooms online did not look like what we were given. There was barely any walking space to move around and unpack comfortably. Also, the bathrooms were awful. Very outdated and impractical to do your makeup in there considering there is no real counter to place items. Just a very skinny shelf that was underneath the mirror. I had to do my makeup sitting on the chair facing the mirror that was in the bedroom, but the lighting itself barely helped. Forgot to mention that the A/C did not work well in one of the rooms. The room was left humid and I woke up feeling disgusting. Another inconvenience was the lack of fridges. Traveling on vacation most likely results in trying new foods and wanting to save them for later. Well, we could not do that since there was no fridge to store our food! Ridiculous. Unfortunately, we had to throw away food that we could not finish. The cleaning crew was kind, but some of the front desk employees were not. The location was fine, but it was not in the nicest spot. We could have found better, but we booked last minute for our trip.

I picked this hotel after looking around and feeling overwhelmed by all the choices. So happy with my pick. Fantastic location…easy to get in and out, parking( validated…. Five days of parking a large SUV just over $200) across the street, subway outside, Penn station on the next block. Walkable yo so many cool places… Time Square, Hudson Yard, Empire State, just to name a few. Staff was super friendly and helpful. Beautiful art Deco style inside the lobby, three different restaurants attached to the lobby. Our room was good size with two bathrooms which was super convenient, only complaints the beds are small and there is not fridge in the room… we were there when there was a five day straight heat wave of 90 plus. Extra space for water would have been helpful. Would recommend a stay!!

Great hotel! We really liked the art deco design. The history of the hotel is really interesting. Make sure to go to the Nikola Tesla exhibit on the bottom floor. Rooms were tiny by overall hotel standards but good sized for NYC. The suite we stayed in ha two bathrooms which was helpful because we had two kids with us. The location was great because we were near Penn station. So getting the subway to other parts of NYC was easy. Parking at the dock was definitely the way to go. They parked and retrieved the car quickly. I would recommend buying your parking in advance.
