As you enter this mansion you have to pass a heavy guarded gate. One inside you drive along to the main entrance which looks impressive. We were welcomed and could use all facilities but the rooms were not ready yet (at 1100am). The hotel is located directly at the ocean and is surrounded by many beautiful palm trees.

We had the best week ever with our children and their families. Seventeen of us at times, and nothing was too much trouble for the staff of the Karafuu. They re-arranged tables and chairs to accommodate us all, they prepared fries on evenings when they weren't offered for my grandson who wouldn't eat anything else on offer. (His loss, the food choices were amazing).
This is our 6th visit to the Karafuu and we shall return, God willing.
We love the location, the staff is caring and hardworking and it's just all round excellent.

Where to begin?
Every second spent at the resort was wonderful. Every staff member was extremely nice and they all made a point of knowing the children’s names. That made the kids feel special and gave a personal, familiar feeling allround .
The gardens and all 3 pools (all 3 with swim-up bars) are amazing. I highly recommend an all inclusive package with breakfast, lunch, dinner and a wide variety of cocktails and drinks. The main pool has the best view over the ocean.
The weather was good through out our stay- the airconditioned rooms a fantastic relief from the humidity. The rooms are spacious and the beds comfortable with very nice big mosquito nets (not making you feel
trapped). The staff is really helpfully. We asked for extra pillows and received them promptly. The rooms were cleaned twice a day with a turn down in the evenings.
All the restaurants are great- we also really enjoyed the pizza restaurant! We loved the live music and dancing in the evenings. The DJ at the pool even made effort to play music from our home country.
I would love to visit Karafuu again.
It is a great family friendly destination. Home away from home.
Since begin home our 3 year old has asked repeatedly to go back to Zanzibar.

I would like to say the staff(not front desk/manager/cashier) were polite and friendly. Now that I got that out way my experience was terrible. I traveled with my wife for our honeymoon and booked the honeymoon package(which included rose pedal, wine and candlelight walkway). When we arrive they didn’t have any of our information or room ready. A lot of basic things were not included in the all inclusive package, which they overcharged for. Which wouldn’t have been a problem if the front desk had when we arrived. We were treated as if we couldn’t pay for it(which is further the truth). When we were trying to pay for our bill to check out, they informed they have to charge a 5% (which nowhere else in the island b/c we get that there is VAT tax. All I can do in my frustration is to write this review. PLEASE BOOK SOMEWHERE and no I don’t care for your future apology. They are just conducting bad business with their shady practices. (Not like didn’t know it was our honeymoon because that’s the package we bought and present our marriage certificate). PLEASE DO NOT BOOK THIS RESORT. I feel bad for the staff.

If you can endure being surrounded by people full of greed, you will have a great time on Zanzibar. But the Karafuu is a bit different (tho the Egyptian staff here was quite rude imo: I had 3 massages and my only request was to have a different massaging person every time. Guess what, 3 times I was givin the same unhappy person).
In some of the staff members I could feel genuine happiness and a sense of "fullfillness".
After asking some of these lovely people how much they earn, I was quite shocked to say the least. Therefore supporting this company wouldn't feel right for me again. It's probably owned by some rich mzungu (white person). I'm sorry for all the wonderful souls working here and thank them for serving my family and me!
Oh and the beach + entire island are full of plastic. All the water and drinks you get are wrapped in cheap plastics...
