I stayed at this resort for six days for a birthday trip. I usually stay in Cancun but wanted to try Playa Del Carmen this time. One thing to note—you definitely need a car or have to rely on taxis to get around. Unlike Cancun, the main road is not within walking distance from the resort, and there are no public buses available.
That said, the resort itself was beautiful and well-maintained, with plenty of restaurants and activities. There’s a small strip of stores, including a coffee shop, ice cream shop, souvenir shop, jewelry store, and an arcade, which was a nice touch. The resort also offers nightly entertainment and bowling.
The food, however, was not that good. Of all the restaurants I tried, I personally enjoyed the Steakhouse and Margarita for their tacos, chips, and spicy salsa. The diner was the main restaurant open throughout the day and the only option for breakfast. Unfortunately, the buffet/diner had extremely limited options, and the food was terrible—no seasoning, hard rice, and undercooked vegetables. I’m not a picky eater, but the food was a definite no for me. In comparison, I’ve stayed at 4- 4.5-star resorts in Cancun where the food selection and quality were much better.
My worst dining experience was at Pez Vela, which I really wanted to enjoy since it’s the only beachfront restaurant. I ordered the “jerk chicken”with green rice, but the rice was hard, and the chicken was not jerk—it was just roasted, heart-shaped, tender but completely unseasoned. Even the rolls weren’t good.
My room looked just like the pictures—very spacious—but could use some upgrades, as there were rust and stains on the bathroom fixtures and white furniture. Another thing to be aware of is housekeeping constantly knocking on the door throughout the day and outside normal cleaning hours. One night, they came by around 7:30 PM.
On a positive note, I enjoyed working out in the gym every morning, and there’s plenty of wildlife around the resort. The animals seemed harmless, though I did see a raccoon, which I wasn’t too fond of.
The service at some restaurants could have been better, but overall, the resort was beautiful, and I had a good time. This was also my first time not doing any excursions or leaving the resort, which made for a more relaxing trip.

Dr. Gabriel was absolutely fantastic!! Our 14 month old son came down with some sort of virus from the resort, and he was very quick to check him, help us open our insurance claim, and took our number on WhatsApp so he could stay in touch with us while we were at the hospital. He even helped direct us to a good pharmacy to get our son’s medication, and followed up with him the next day to make sure he was improving. While our stay at the hotel and experience with the rest of the staff was dismal and extremely disappointing, it was a huge comfort having such a caring doctor help treat our baby. Thank you so much Dr. Gabriel!!

The resort is clean and pretty nice, all of the staff were very friendly and helpful. Overall we had a great experience with the facilities and pools. The beach area was nice but you had to make sure to be up very early to put your towel down on a chair before the other people did to be able to have one for the day. The room we had was a privilege rooftop with a pool view. If you plan on using the hot tub, it takes a very very long time to fill, the water doesn’t get hot, and we didn’t even get the chance to use it. The location and how the resort is set up along one street was very nice and allows you to see the pretty landscape and layout, allows you to get to see the wildlife they have like the monkeys. The worst part about the resort was definitely the food, we went to several of the restaurants. The steakhouse delivered us with the toughest of rib eyes and the sides were the best part of the dish, we didn’t even finish the steaks. We went to blue moon for their New Years special dinner that they required you to purchase a bottle of wine or champagne to be able to eat there for that night. When we received our main course (surf and turf) our steaks were ordered medium rare and came out raw, so we sent them back. When we received our new steaks they were 3 stages past well done, again we did not finish our dinner. We also ate at the Italian restaurant one evening for dinner which was the best of the other dinners we had but the bar wasn’t very high. Overall we enjoyed the buffet the most because of the variety and ability to choose from the different options. We stayed at the resort for 6 days and overall enjoyed everything with the exception of the food. Would I go back again, no, however if you can overlook the food and just stick to the buffet it is not a bad option for the price

I had an amazing dining experience at Privilege Lounge! From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was welcoming and elegant. Our waiter, Fidel, was incredibly attentive and made sure we had everything we needed throughout the meal. He was knowledgeable about the menu and offered great recommendations. Moises and Ana were also fantastic, providing excellent service and ensuring we felt taken care of. The food was absolutely delicious, with every dish beautifully presented and full of flavor. I highly recommend Privilege Lounge for anyone looking for a top-notch dining experience. I’ll definitely be back!

We did a private dinner on the rooftop at the Privilege lounge and it was the best meal we’ve had on the entire trip.
Moises helped us create the reservation and was so helpful and transparent about the cost (purchase of bottle of wine required to make reservation, about $35 USD).
Fidel was our server and was phenomenally great. Juan has a very bubbly personality.
Recommend a rooftop dinner if you booked the privilege suites here.
