The hotel exceeded our expectations, everything around was like in a fairytale. Kind stuff, pools with nice view, palm trees, the restaurant with stunning variety and hotel with clean rooms. The bar had a lot of different drinks with very nice and funny bartenders. As of Jan 2025, there was a reconstruction of the closest beach access, so we had to walk about 15 minutes to get to comfy sandy beach. Otherwise, perfect!

We are here now, and go home tomorrow. At the moment I hope no-one is due here imminently as there is building work going on in 2 places, a mini golf place and some work going on in the hotel grounds, and it really is very noisy and impossible to relax. The hotel complex itself is OK, but if you've looked at photos on their website I think you may be a little disappointed. The place is in need of a bit of tlc and a lick of paint here and there. Don't be fooled by "All inclusive" either... It isn't unless you want to go sleep at 22:59 as drinks have to be purchased after this time. Also the food menu is not all inclusive either. The choice of food in the restaurant is extensive, but I'm a fussy eater so can't really comment on the quality. The food at the pool bar which you can actually have is really bad.. Just my personal observation with the very limited choice on offer. The staff are all pretty good and friendly, especially the young Jose, and Hector and George. The evening "entertainment" for 5 nights was quite frankly laughable, but the other 2 nights were pretty good with decent live bands. They can't wait to close at around 11pm. The rooms are pretty basic, but adequate. Would I recommend this place? No not really as it has too many shortcomings, but with a little more effort from the owners of the complex, it could be a really great place to stay.

Just checked out after a great week in R2 Costa Calma.
The room was great with a lovely view although might need a renovation in the near future but spotlessly clean.Friendly and helpfull cleaning staff.
Previous posts say the staff in the hotel are very unfriendly.Dont know where that comes from.Found them all friendly and helpful.
Food was adequate and tasty with a good choice .Booked half board.Prices at the bars were also reasonable.
One small complaint ,the queue for the breakfast coffee.Need a filter coffee and hot water boiler . For the price we paid ,this Hotel was top and will hopefully be back in the future. Thank you

It was the first time I encountered an All Inclusive hotel with such huge problems. First of all, the hotel is poorly organized. It accepts both All Inclusive guests and those without All Inclusive. This means that even a bottle of mineral water or juice must be served and noted by the staff. Unfortunately, there is so few employees that you have to wait for everything: to be served coffee, juice or beer. You can wait at the pool bar for up to half an hour and the waiter won't come. The same applies to restaurants. Sometimes you have to wait 45 minutes for a waiter to approach you. Even if I eat dinner for a long time, it takes me less time. Therefore, I had to finish some meals without drinking.
Additionally, at breakfast you almost always wait in line for the coffee machine. And when you get close, it turns out that the grounds container is full and there is no staff nearby.
But that's not all. I had the impression that the entire team was extremely frustrated and transferred their frustration to the guests. Sometimes the team is just extremely rude.
In addition, the selection of food is very poor, if something is particularly good, it disappears quickly and you have to wait in line again.
As for the positives, the hotel has a beautiful garden and swimming pool, but there are definitely too few sun loungers.
So if you don't want to stand in constant lines, you don't like when someone shouts at you and you don't want to feel like a cheater when asking for anything, don't go to this hotel. Never. I was there with my family, I experienced it all and I don't want it anymore.

I recently stayed at the R2 Rio Calma Hotel in Costa Calma, Puerto Ventura, and it was an incredibly disappointing experience. The room smelled strongly of cleaning chemicals, no water was provided, and there weren’t even glasses for drinks or the water we purchased. The fridge was leaking, and the room felt worn down and poorly maintained. When we asked to change rooms, the reception staff were rude and dismissive, essentially saying, 'You get what you pay for,' without offering an apology or professionalism expected from a four-star hotel.
Three days in, I developed itchy bites from bed bugs. When we reported this to reception, they didn’t apologize but said they would send someone to check. After waiting thirty minutes, we followed up and were told someone had already checked, which was untrue. They eventually gave us a key to a new room and demanded we move within thirty minutes. Although the new room was better, the overall experience remained terrible.
The food service was equally poor. The quality of the food did not meet four-star standards, and the service in the restaurant was chaotic. Waiters were rude and unhelpful, tables were often unmade, and we had to chase down staff for basic service, which was slow and unresponsive.
This hotel does not deserve its four-star rating. The experience felt closer to a one-star establishment. I would strongly recommend avoiding R2 Rio Calma Hotel, as it fails to meet even basic hospitality standards.
