The hotel is ok. Food quality is good and there is plenty to do for kids and adults.
I am giving one star because of the location - namely the closed street next to the hotel where the lunapark is. The loud carousel music starts in the evening and then the party lasts until early morning (on Thursday until 2, on Friday until 3 am).
The stage is so close to the building that the entire structure is shaking and windows are vibrating. In general I don't have problems with sleeping but here I couldn't get any rest until the music stopped.

Avoid the apartments at the far end of the complex! The hotel is well aware of FREQUENT break-ins but the staff will not warn you!
First the good: the weather in Costa Calma was really nice (not too hot, but reliably sunny) and the beach is really nice. Most of the staff (cafeteria, bars) are quite friendly.
The bad:
- the hotel is old, the rooms are musty and kind of gross. The public toilets are very dirty
- lots of cockroaches. Our kids didn't want to use the toilets by the pool because there were so many live ones crawling around
- you have to pay for loungers on the beach (5 Euros per day, per lounger + 5 Euros if you want an umbrella)
- the food is just ok. Coffee from the machines is pretty awful
The WORST: two days before we left, our apartment was broken into. We had locked the windows as instructed, but the thieves just popped the entire window out. About 900 Euros worth of cash and electronics were stolen. The hotel management was completely unfazed; they just popped the window back in and called it a day. (Beware room 564. I guarantee the window was just placed back with no repairs/reinforcement.) Our kids were terrified and traumatized because the thieves had ransacked the apartment and gone through our things. We all felt very unsafe from that point on. Hotel management were completely unhelpful. There is no security to check who is coming onto the hotel premises. We had to spend our last full day dealing with the police report ourselves. We spoke to other guests who had heard of other break-ins recently. We did spend our last night in a room on the third floor (bit safer) but the damage was already done. We couldn't wait to leave!
My advice: cancel your booking, spend your money elsewhere. I would have rather spent the extra +900 Euros on a nicer and safer holiday. If its too late, then at least take everything valuable with you when you leave the room!

Certainly not recommended. I give one star for the location by the wonderful beach. Other elements such as food, animations, service are less than average. The most serious problem of this hotel is the condition and cleanliness of the family rooms. Musty smell, damp, mold on the walls and insects. The hotel manager is dishonest and will lie to you with a smile. The service behind the bar is incompetent and rude. I advise against, vacation with TUI travel agency.

Good appartement, 2 rooms 2 tv's, 5 days a week cleaning service.
The food all inclusive is very good except on Saturday and Sunday a bit less compared to other days.
Animation in the evening is childish.
Sandbeach is dirty as are the sun chairs, waste baskets many times overfilled.
Barkeepers and personnel very friendly and very good choice of drinks.
Going to Gandia, Morra Jabor was an eye opener for our eventual next visit to this island.
The wildlife zoo is great, very very beautiful.
All in all very nice for 10 days to come to a good rest.

Amazing place! Amazing staff! Amazing locals! The hotel and services are 4 star. The apartments are 3 star. However, they are very clean and functional. It's an all inclusive hotel, so I didn't need to use the kitchenette. Please note, there aren't any cutlery, plates, pots and pans. It is empty. However, they do have a mini fridge microwave and two hob cooker top. We brought our traveller kettle. We travelled with two teenagers. In the living room, there were two single beds and the master bedroom with two singles together (see photos). We were on the ground floor. We were in the apartments around the 800s. It was not far from the beach....1 to 2 minutes . It was not far from the main pool or restaurant....1 to 2 minutes. We did not spend lots of time in the room...so 3 star standard rooms is not a problem. We hired the safe for the week due to previous comments about break ins. However, we did not experience any break-ins. We hired the cabanas (pair of beds with sea views...€15). The only issue was the sun loungers (holiday makers were grabbing sun loungers around main pool extremely early in the morning and marking them with their towels). The food is amazing....lamb, beef, pork and chicken breast, different varieties of fish, cheeses, salads and everything else! It is a chill out holiday...it you want more than that, go to Tenerife or Grand Canaria. Beach is beautiful, especially when it is not windy...the sea is calm. Snack bar around main pool offers late breakfast (after 10:30am), lunch (burger, hot dogs ,chips etc..). After 4, its cakes and pastries. Soft drinks and alcohol flow throughout the day until late. Overall, an excellent scorching holiday. If you're a 5 star traveller or a 4 star traveller in other parts of globe, you may disagree with my comments. The three amigos (Millenials - Tuesday night)and the magic showman ( Thursday nights) was amazing! Monica Beach hotel needs to keep calling them back for nightly entertainment (10/10)! It would be nice for the hotel to provide a full on disco with a variety of genre played. Also, an adults only night. If you want a service with a smile, guaranteed sun, good food and special memories with family and friends. Go for it.
