This will be my last experience with Marriott properties. My recent stays, first at the Sheraton in Seattle and now the Residence Inn in New York, have been disappointing to say the least.
As a Gold member, having stayed over 50 nights this year, I expected more. Instead, the “reward” for my loyalty was a single bottle of water. After paying premium rates for what turned out to be subpar experiences, this gesture feels almost insulting. A bottle of water is hardly the recognition one expects for such commitment to the brand.
Breakfast was another letdown. Options were severely limited, the room was uncomfortably packed, and the quality was unacceptable. Sandwiches wrapped in plastic and kept in a food warmer hardly meet even a basic standard, let alone one for loyal customers.
After this, I’m left wondering if Marriott values customer loyalty at all. The experience felt far from the premium standard they claim to offer.

This hotel has the best customer service of any hotel ever! Jane B. was the most important person at the hotel in making sure our stay was enjoyable. She greeted us every morning and evening, provided us with excellent recommendations and accommodations to make my families' vacation something we will always remember. Thank you, Jane! You are such an asset to this hotel. Anthony greeted us each morning with a delicious breakfast and a friendly start to the day. The great customer service that this hotel provides can be seen in all their interactions with all the guests. We have stayed at this hotel before and we keep returning because we are treated as family and I can’t wait to return to this hotel again. Thank you Jane, Anthony, Heidi, and Jose, just to name a few that make this hotel so wonderful.
The breakfast is delicious with the best tasting coffee. The hotel is conveniently located near subways and many tourist stops, the beds are comfortable, and the area is safe. This is the place to stay on your next visit to New York. Be sure to get to know Jane and all the other wonderful staff.

Hotel is fine, good location. Breakfast is basic.
But the "Destination fee" being increasingly charged by hotels is a rip off.
In addition to the hotel rate, there's a State Sales Tax, State Occupancy Tax, City Tax, Convention and Tourism Tax, a "Charitable Contribution" on the bill (?), and finally a Destination Fee.
The fee is touted as coming with things they are "sure" you'll enjoy. I'd enjoy it more if they would not cram this fee down my, err, wallet, and as a loyal Marriott member, seems a funny way to reward loyalty.

After two stays here, this has become my favorite downtown NYC hotel, at least as business/general places go.
Location is great, just a couple minute walk from the Fulton Street subway station, plenty of food options, grocery stores and the WTC / financial district sights all around. Of course it's a little far if you want to head to midtown but usually a much better price to offset and gets nice and quiet in the evening (by NYC standards).
As for the hotel, the rooms are the highlight. Lots of space compared to other local options and having the fridge / small kitchen is a great option. Also a big fan of rooms with a couch for a few minutes chilling out.
Staff is very friendly, on-site laundry machines, decent enough gym, and a basic breakfast is included. Elevators can be a bit slow in the mornings though better than some other places but certainly a concern.
There is a $25 destination fee with certain bookings. Comes with a credit for the gift shop and a bunch of different access / tickets if you arrange them so be sure to ask if you do get that.

This was our second time staying here and unfortunately it wasn’t as good as the last time. The help from the manager at the front desk and some other staff that worked there was the best. But seconds after entering our room we found out that the room wasn’t properly cleaned as seen on the photos. There was a scrunchie that wasn’t ours on the floor, the bathroom was dirty, etc. also the room was freezing all the time, so much that we had to call for maintenance at 2 AM cause we couldn’t sleep because of that. Maintenance took more than an hour trying to fix this but never fully did so. When we asked for more toiled (which wasn’t replaced when the room was being cleaned) and shampoo and hair conditioner because there wasn’t any, the staff never brought them to us we had to remind them of this several times. And two of the two men at the Ground level were so rude, they looked they didn’t want to work. When leaving our luggage with them in our last day he looked at us with a bothered look and barely tried to be well mannered, I even asked him why he was like that and if he had a problem and he said “yeah” while looking at me like I was the problem, and I said “well if I can do anything to help you let me know” because he made me feel guilty of asking for a service that the manager offered to us. And it was his job. Very poor service. Unfortunately this will be our last time staying at this hotel.
