We loved everything about this resort. We had a room in building 2, this building was within walking distance of the restaurant where breakfast is and we had a beautiful view of the ocean. The room was good, the bed was very nice and the view was amazing! At first I was worried about insects because of the wood, however, we had no problems at all with this. The shuttle that goes to the pool and beach comes regularly, we only had to wait an average of 5 minutes. The staff is incredibly friendly and the pools are beautiful. There were a bit few sunbeds, but during the time we were there we could always find one. We ate in the "village" every night, 10 minutes walk from the hotel (from the reception). Recommendations are Mama Seafood and Harris. We also rented scooters in the village for 200 tbh p.p. for 1 day.
Furthermore, the hotel transfer from the airport was super arranged and at a good rate, especially since you get out directly to the hotel so this is definitely recommended.
We can recommend this resort to everyone, it is a fantastically beautiful and quiet place with still plenty to do.

We’ve had the pleasure of staying at Santhiya Koh Yao Yai Resort & Spa twice, and both times were unforgettable. On our first visit, we stayed in a villa with a private pool, which was an absolute dream—complete privacy and luxury. This time, we opted for a room with a balcony featuring a bathtub, and the experience was just as delightful. The views from both accommodations were truly magnificent, overlooking the ocean and nearby islands, adding to the serene atmosphere.
The location is unbeatable, offering peace, beauty, and a real escape from the world—definitely 5 stars. The service remains impeccable, with the staff always friendly and eager to help, which really elevates the entire experience.
The only minor issue we encountered was the occasional cockroach in the room, which brings the room rating down to 4 stars. However, the overall stay was excellent, and we highly recommend it for anyone looking for a luxurious, tranquil retreat.

I’ll start off by saying you are paying for the location with this hotel. And the views do not disappoint. We had some clouds and rain all week, but it was beautiful and serene in its own special way.
The rooms left a lot to be desired and did not reflect the pictures. It’s clear that while these suites were nice at one time, they haven’t been maintained and it shows. Likely a result of COVID-era challenges, but the exterior was disappointing and downright dangerous. Take a look at the photos highlighting wood rot, loose floorboards, and exposed rusty nails. The inside was nice (and clean), and that matters a lot. But if you bring kids like we did, be careful with them outside the suite.
The food was mediocre at best. The flavors and spiciness were very subdued, likely a reflection of the standard Northern European tourists that frequent the resort. It tastes like you’re in Europe, and not the tasty southern parts.
Which brings me to the people. The staff were great - once you broke the ice. They seemed to be fatigued. Hard to say if this is from cranky (no, miserable) European tourists, or working conditions. I won’t assume beyond my comment, but they weren’t as accommodating as other places we stayed.
The other consideration would be the terrain. Due to the layout of the hotel on the steep hillside, there are shuttles are used to move you from your suite to every other part of the resort. This means all meals, the beach, pool, etc. The shuttles are essentially small pickup trucks and a covered roof and the seats are facing the sides. There are no cushions or seat belts and coupled with the steep hillside, you better hold on tight and you’re going to be on top of your neighbor. The biggest issue, however, is the logistics of leaving. From the time we called to request a shuttle to the time we arrived, it was about 15 minutes; the same is true for the return. So, plan for a 30 minute round trip and don’t forget your wallet like I did once. It was fun for a couple rides but quickly wore us down.

We loved our stay at this amazing resort. It’s beautiful in every respect! We loved the traditional Thai wooden architecture, the landscaping, and the views, all are stunning.
Our deluxe ocean view, king room,
was on the lower level, you could hear the people above you, but it was not too bad. We loved the first floor because the balconies all had ceiling fans and were very private. Loved the outside deep tub as well, I took many baths there during our week long stay, (we hit a bit of rain and cooler temps)
The top infinity pool is incredible, the sunset views are spectacular, the only downside is the very competitive and limited lounge chairs around the pool, people would “claim” them early in the day, often times not using them, but had their bags there, we had to go early to get one, you can also grab a “lounge bed” in the restaurant, but it’s not the same. The waterfall pool is also incredible, they still need more seating/lounge chairs, but there are more to choose from, even some small wooden boats you can lie on in the pool water, so cool!
The beach is sandy and the water is great for swimming.
The restaurants up top, and down on the beach, both had delicious food and were reasonable.
We also ate at the various beach bars all within walking distance along the beach. Delicious food as well and very good prices. Eat at Mamma Seafood, that was a treat.
The staff here are incredible. Nice to see and hear Thai people, as well as people from Myanmar, the Philippines and all over Asia. They are all kind and very professional.

You do have to take the shuttle down to the beach because it’s on a very steep hillside, but it didn’t bother us, they run frequently and it’s worth it.
The breakfast buffet was a hilarious competition, I’ve never seen anything quite like it. Europeans are funny, they would literally run down a small child for their toast or croissants, (we actually witnessed this!) but if you can just tolerate the pushy Europeans, you’ll be fine. They constantly replace everything, and there is plenty of food. And the traditional Thai music was lovely while we ate.

The rooms are good, and the staff providing direct service were kind, but the management ruined our stay. Due to the hotel’s mistakes, the tours were a disaster—poorly organized, delayed, and far from what was promised. Two full days of our trip were completely wasted.
When we complained, they didn’t address the real issue of our ruined stay. Instead, they tried to “compensate” by offering a 20% discount on dining and else charges—not the stay itself. When we refused, we were told we couldn’t leave the island without signing their agreement. With a boat and flight to catch, we had no choice but to comply. This felt deeply dishonest and manipulative.
The island itself is wonderful, and you’d likely have just as good an experience at another hotel. If you stay here, avoid booking tours through the hotel—they’ll likely ruin your time.
