One of the most remarkable resorts I have visited. Everything was perfect - accommodation, dinning, guest service were all 10/10. We were so fortunate to have Beauty as our Villa Host. She took such great care of us and went above be and beyond to organize very memorable trips for us- she even followed up during each of the trips to make sure we were having a good time. The resort collected us from the airport in a very comfortable mini van and explained each of the areas of the island as we made our way to the hotel. All staff were fluent in English and made sure our needs were always taken care of. The rooms were amazing - we had a two bedroom suite with the most comfortable beds and pillows, amazing showers and both an infinity pool and hot tub! Could not recommend this hotel enough- we will certainly be looking to stay at a banyan in the future. Thank you Beauty and Team!!!

- beautiful private beach
- villas have a timeless design and are well maintained
- friendly and attentive staff
- extremely overpriced beach restaurant (3-4x the price of similar quality outside the hotel)
- outrageous laundry prices (200 baht for a single T-shirt, while next door, you can wash 1kg for 80 baht)
- sun bed reservations by guests in the morning, with no enforcement from hotel staff
The excessive pricing for amenities left me feeling like guests are being taken advantage of. I expect the resort to respond by saying it’s about "quality," but we had excellent food and drinks outside for less than half the price. A coconut is still a coconut.

I reached out to Banyan Tree Koh Samui well in advance to make a restaurant reservation for my wedding anniversary. Instead of simply checking availability or confirming the booking, I was told that as an outside guest, I needed to send an email. Fine—I complied and sent the email several days ahead of time.
What did I get in return? Silence. No response for two days. Then, just one day before our planned anniversary dinner, I finally received a reply—telling me the restaurant was fully booked.
This is beyond unacceptable for a so-called luxury resort. Instead of managing reservations properly or at least communicating in a timely manner, they wasted my time and left us scrambling for an alternative at the last minute. If they had simply informed me earlier, I could have made other plans.
I am baffled at how far the service and quality have fallen. Banyan Tree used to be a name synonymous with excellence—now, it’s just an overpriced resort with shockingly poor service.
If you’re celebrating a special occasion, do yourself a favor and book elsewhere. Plenty of other five-star resorts on the island actually value their guests and know how to provide real hospitality.

Reception / Concierge: Very professional and fast. Precise communication upfront. Good guest care via WhatsApp.
Villa: Excellent. I had a Hillcrest Horizon Villa, and it was exactly what I was looking for. Spacious, modern (you need to like this “American style”), quiet, and with a great view. If you are looking for 100% privacy, you can’t go wrong with a villa like this, especially if it is located at the top or in a quiet corner.
Service: Mixed feelings. While the reception staff is very professional, others (like the guards or the room service staff) are not always quite on that level. Some processes, especially regarding in-villa dining, are not standardized. Sometimes they bring ice cream in a cool box; other times, they don’t. My breakfast also arrived differently every day, even though I ordered the exact same things. One time they toasted the bread; other times, they didn’t.
Food: Also mixed. The Pad Thai and the salmon were below average, the steak was OK/good and the chocolate ice cream was one of the best I’ve ever had. So, everything was a bit inconsistent, and you never knew what the standard would be that day. But this is complaining at a high level - overall, a good hotel with very nice villas.

Banyang Tree SPA was one of the best oil massages I had in Thailand. Nan and Ping were professional and paid attention to details. They took great care of their guests. The hydrotherapy was fun too. Would definitely recommend getting a massage here.
