I normally don’t write reviews while I’m still at a resort, but this one needs to be done. I’m currently still here, and I absolutely do not recommend anyone to book this place. The reviews you’ve read about the issues here are completely TRUE.
No Beach
Let’s start with the beach—or rather, the lack of one. There is no real beach at this resort. The area they call a beach is dirty, with barely any sand, making it unusable. To make matters worse, instead of properly cleaning up the seaweed, the staff sweeps it back into the water, making the situation even worse. It’s misleading to even advertise this resort as having a beach because there’s essentially nothing here to enjoy.
Pool Chaos
The pool situation is an absolute nightmare. Guests “reserve” chairs by placing towels or belongings on them as early as 8 AM, and the resort staff does nothing about it. Finding a spot near the pool is impossible unless you’re willing to pay $100 for a cabana, which feels like a cash grab. Even the “adults-only” pool is poorly managed—it has about 10 chairs total, and they’re all claimed by 7 AM with towels or books left on them.
Disastrous New Year’s Eve
Last night was New Year’s Eve, and it was the worst experience ever. For the past six years, we’ve gone to various resorts during the holidays, and the celebrations have always been incredible. Not here. Hyatt Ziva charged guests extra for tables and dinner. Since we didn’t pay for this, we ended up sitting on beach chairs in the lawn area—hardly the festive celebration we were hoping for. It felt cheap and poorly planned, completely lacking the elegance and excitement we’ve seen at other resorts.
Mediocre Food
The food is just average, nothing memorable or worth the price tag. We’ve had far better dining experiences at other resorts for much less money.
Overall
We’ve spent over $6,000 for this trip, and I can honestly say it’s been a huge disappointment. Between the lack of a beach, the pool chair chaos, the disastrous New Year’s Eve celebration, and the mediocre food, this resort doesn’t come close to living up to the hype or its price point.
I don’t recommend Hyatt Ziva Cancun to anyone. Save your money and book somewhere else—you’ll thank me later.

I cannot believe this resort is rated so low. In the states nothing is comparable, to the modern furnishings to the service (top notch). People might complain that the food is not up to bar, I enjoyed the food very greatly. The beach might be small, but you still receive good lounge chairs to enjoy the ocean. My only "complaint" as it really did not damper my experience was that the gazebo was unavailable. This is an excellent resort if you want a quite stay in cancun. Small, yet even in my 5 days I did not feel like I had enough days to see everything. Will I return, yes!!!

A very long due review... but here it goes. This property deserves 5 star for their service without a doubt. Karla (manager from the Asian restaurant), Gabriel server at the same restaurant, Carlos from the guest services, the chef at the steak house (who specially cooked meals for my family when my son and spouse were extremely unwell - comfort food was served in our room). Karla went out of her way to assist us when my child and spouse were sick. Their on-site doctor was extremely pleasant too. The surprise birthday arrangement done inside our room as we were celebrating my birthday - all organized by Carlos from guest services.
The property is beautiful and their evening programs are really nice especially the magic show and the fire show. Must never miss the movie night under the stars. Their pool access from the rooms is great too. Kids day care was very entertaining while my spouse and I enjoyed the spa.
We would definitely go back!

Every one was very helpful and very friendly. The food was delicious The resort was spacious, nicely decorated .
The landscape was filled with luscious green palm trees. The pools was strategically placed . Their was something for adults and kids. The best thing for me was that I fell asleep without any discomfort. They had the best bed that I have ever slept in when I am away from home.It was so comfortable . The room had a view of the ocean and the courtyard. Seeing the sun rise was so beautiful. If anyone is looking to relax and have fun then that is the place to visit. I will visit that resort again for the bed and the location the ambiance food and most of all their staff.

Overall resort can be best described as mid.
Service - The staff were generally friendly. Knowing a little Spanish helps.
Food - One common issue is lack of flavor, but being a resort they do have to appeal to as many palettes as possible. One exception is Vivace the Italian restaurant. Certain places had one or two dishes or a dessert that was good. Breakfast did not have vast amount of options like other resorts, but the omelettes were great. Coffee spot at Roots had friendly staff but seems like they don’t have much experience.
Facilities - Our room was large and clean, toilet flushing takes time or multiple flushes. The resort is a bit older. Pools were clean. Wish the resort had a bit more activities or advertised the activities outside of the app.
General Tips: The road to the resort is terrible when it rains, would not recommend renting a car if you’re trying to get to this resort use a shuttle. Spas and certain other services may have some discounts when you get to the hotel, so wait to book.
Overall a decent hotel but you may find other resorts with better food and a beach (but maybe smaller rooms) for a lower price.
