I normally don’t write reviews while I’m still at a resort, but this one needs to be done. I’m currently still here, and I absolutely do not recommend anyone to book this place. The reviews you’ve read about the issues here are completely TRUE.
No Beach
Let’s start with the beach—or rather, the lack of one. There is no real beach at this resort. The area they call a beach is dirty, with barely any sand, making it unusable. To make matters worse, instead of properly cleaning up the seaweed, the staff sweeps it back into the water, making the situation even worse. It’s misleading to even advertise this resort as having a beach because there’s essentially nothing here to enjoy.
Pool Chaos
The pool situation is an absolute nightmare. Guests “reserve” chairs by placing towels or belongings on them as early as 8 AM, and the resort staff does nothing about it. Finding a spot near the pool is impossible unless you’re willing to pay $100 for a cabana, which feels like a cash grab. Even the “adults-only” pool is poorly managed—it has about 10 chairs total, and they’re all claimed by 7 AM with towels or books left on them.
Disastrous New Year’s Eve
Last night was New Year’s Eve, and it was the worst experience ever. For the past six years, we’ve gone to various resorts during the holidays, and the celebrations have always been incredible. Not here. Hyatt Ziva charged guests extra for tables and dinner. Since we didn’t pay for this, we ended up sitting on beach chairs in the lawn area—hardly the festive celebration we were hoping for. It felt cheap and poorly planned, completely lacking the elegance and excitement we’ve seen at other resorts.
Mediocre Food
The food is just average, nothing memorable or worth the price tag. We’ve had far better dining experiences at other resorts for much less money.
Overall
We’ve spent over $6,000 for this trip, and I can honestly say it’s been a huge disappointment. Between the lack of a beach, the pool chair chaos, the disastrous New Year’s Eve celebration, and the mediocre food, this resort doesn’t come close to living up to the hype or its price point.
I don’t recommend Hyatt Ziva Cancun to anyone. Save your money and book somewhere else—you’ll thank me later.

We recently stayed at the Hyatt Ziva Riviera and were drawn in by its beautiful location, but unfortunately, the experience didn’t live up to expectations.
Service: We rented a cabana expecting premium service but were highly disappointed. In four hours, we were only attended to twice, which was frustrating given the cost.
Food: The buffet was one of the worst parts of our stay—limited options, cold food every time, and nothing kid-friendly. Dining here felt more like a chore than a pleasure.
Housekeeping: Housekeeping was inconsistent at best. Our coffee station lacked cups, towels were removed but never replenished, and to top it off, a drink container sat on the floor outside our room for three days without being picked up.
Pools and Beach: The main pool was clean and enjoyable, but the side pools were filthy, with cups and plastic floating for days. The beach, sadly, was in poor condition post-hurricane, which wasn’t the resort’s fault, but it added to the disappointment.
Bar: The one saving grace was the bar. Drinks were poured generously, which made it easier to overlook the many issues.
While the scenery was stunning, poor service, cold food, and lack of attention to cleanliness and detail make it hard to recommend Hyatt Ziva Riviera. We expected much better from a resort of this caliber.

Lackluster beach was offset by beautiful pools! Upgraded to a walk out pool room was great! Although pools were colder, we understand it was in the winter months.
Sweet drinks tasted like fake sweeteners were used, some making it relatively undrinkable.
Cups used were mostly miserable. Every possible drink should not go into a martini or margarita glass, skinny stemmed glasses are quite terrible for walking around or doing literally anything other than sitting.
Specialty restaurants all left service standards to be desired. Waiting on several occasions 30+ minutes for food. Buffet service and attendance was great!

We visited Hyatt Ziva Riviera December 28-January 4 with our family of 8 adults and a baby. The first three days of all inclusive service were not good and very disappointing. I contacted the Manager, Roberto Munoz, about the terrible service and our frustration with making request from room service and cleaning and restaurant availability. He apologized for our experience and personally assured us that he would make sure the service was what we had expected for our last three days. His management skills and customers service was exceptional and our time at Hyatt Ziva Riviera was everything I expected and enjoyed. Thank you. Roberto for your help. I hope you go far as a manager because you did an exceptional job.

Disappointing Stay – Not Up to Hyatt Standards
I had high expectations for this all-inclusive resort, but unfortunately, it fell short in many areas. While the property has potential, there were too many glaring issues to ignore.
First, the basics were lacking: no washcloths, no toilet paper even after the room was cleaned, no trash can in the room, no hair dryer, and no robes provided. To make matters worse, the floors weren’t cleaned during housekeeping, and the rooms, while spacious, had chipped and dirty paint.
The resort also struggles with amenities. There weren’t enough pool chairs for the number of guests, and while the beach is small and mostly unusable (which isn’t the resort’s fault), it limits outdoor relaxation options. The check-in area felt awkwardly designed and inefficient.
Food was okay, but some of the restaurants were closed, limiting dining options further. While the bar staff were fantastic and friendly, the coffee shop staff were noticeably rude. Service in general seemed stretched thin in certain areas, even though the staff that were there clearly tried their best.
Lastly, the location is very isolated, so don’t expect to find much to do nearby.
Overall, the resort needs significant improvements to match the Hyatt brand standards. Until they address these issues, I wouldn’t recommend staying here.
