Barceló resort is located on the Mayan Riviera. It is beautiful. We have returned for over 7 years. The food is delicious. Located on the resort is a top notch mini golf course. We love the resort beach. Swimming in the Caribbean Sea is a treat. No sharks, warm water, and no rip tides. We love it here and will probably continue to make this part of our winter getaway.

Our stay at the Barcelo Maya Grand (Colonial) has been extremely disappointing. Unfortunately, what was supposed to be a relaxing family vacation has been stressful and frustrating due to the resort’s poor service and lack of attention to detail.
Service:
The service across the board has been terrible. At every meal, we wait 10-15 minutes just to get a high chair for our young children, and beverage service is almost non-existent. We rarely receive water or any other drinks unless we actively flag someone down. At the bars, service is chaotic and unfriendly; multiple people cut ahead of us and are served first, while staff appear indifferent.
Dining:
Every restaurant is a buffet for breakfast and lunch, which quickly became monotonous. For dinner, the a la carte options were impossible to book for the majority of our stay. We were only able to secure three reservations, all at inconvenient times, during our final nights. Why offer these options if they’re essentially inaccessible to most guests?
Room Location:
The biggest disappointment was our room placement directly across from the theater, where extremely loud shows run until 11–11:30 p.m. every night. With two kids under 4, this has made it nearly impossible for us to rest. When we asked to change rooms, the only option offered was one "far away from everything." Packing up and moving—especially with small children—is a huge inconvenience, and the lack of empathy from the staff was disheartening.
Additional Issues:
Upon arrival, we were told a crib would be in our room, but it wasn’t. We had to call to request it, which delayed us settling in.
Housekeeping has been inconsistent; we’ve had to call to have our room cleaned.
The overall vibe we’ve received from staff is that they simply don’t care about guest satisfaction.
Overall, this resort fell far below expectations. Poor service, inadequate amenities, and lack of consideration for families have made our stay unpleasant and stressful. I cannot recommend this resort to others and hope management will address these issues to prevent other families from having similar experiences.

The rooms were clean and spacious. The colonial buffet had excellent food with wide variety of food so even the pickiest eater would be able to find something. Claudia our waitress was quick with service and a smile and very welcoming to the colonial buffet.Jose was quick to offer a drink and a laugh at the captain Morgan’s And so many other staff members. We would recommend this resort to friends, families, couples and who ever else would love a relaxing vacation

We usually stay at Dreams resorts but decided to try something new but unfortunately this resort is a huge disappointment. Check in is not smooth and getting a reservation at one of the restaurants that are not buffet style is beyond ridiculous. So much attitude and very little help. We made it to the Italian restaurant and it only got worse. Service was terrible, food was mediocre at best, served cold and obviously not all at the same time. Good luck getting a second glass of wine here. I won’t even bother with the dirty rooms. Unfortunately we are here for 3 more days so there could be more updates coming. If not, save yourself tge headache and stay at a better resort.
