Beautiful, clean, well-maintained resort. Every single member of the staff from guest services to the bartenders, housekeeping to wait staff were above and beyond, friendly, and genuinely wanted to ensure your comfort and needs were met. The shows are incredible - we were thoroughly impressed. Our only "cons" were the a la carte restaurants are difficult to get reservations for during our stay requiring our group to dine at the buffet more than anticipated. Also, the resort is massive and somewhat confusing to navigate - it would have been helpful to have more and clearer directional signs. All in all, we will gladly return for another family holiday and recommend it. We are a family of 4 traveling with a preschooler and elementary aged children. We were joined by another family -2 adults and 3 kids. We found the resort to have something for everyone from food to entertainment

For the price, it's good. Compared to resorts that are slightly higher priced, this resort is lacking. Nothing particularly bad, but there is a significant lack of shade and air conditioning around the resort. So many of the cabanas don't have the roof on. Most days even in a light breeze they didn't let you use the umbrellas. Made it very uncomfortable. While the food wasn't bad, the food wasn't particularly good, and I wouldn't go to the restaurants if they were near my house. One of the worst steaks I ever had was at their stake restaurant Katuk. Best meal was at the seafood restaurant but my calamari looked and had the consistency of being freezer burnt - and that was the best tasting meal. I've been to McDonalds on 4 continents and Michelin star restaurants on 5 continents, so I have a pallet for both cheap food and luxury food, this resort is not luxury and most of the food I wouldn't pay McDs prices for. Service was kind of slow everywhere. Very few people bringing you drinks at the pool and around the resort, no service at the beach. I didn't like having to wear a wristband. I'm glad I had a "luxury" one, because I'd hate to have been treated like a child like the "grand" bracelet guests who had their pool towels counted as if they were criminals who wanted these low quality towels. I almost never got a clean plate, even at one of the nicest restaurants, my plate was dirty, in the buffet, every plate I picked up was dirty. (Edit, finally on day 4 I got a clean plate!). At the snack bar, a serving spoon was taken away and they didn't have more, so you couldn't get that item until they washed that spoon. Most places don't have airconditioning, even the rest rooms making them smell dirty. Lots of speed bumps around the resorts, and the shuttles could use more suspension to not make it hurt when going over the speed bumps.
I give it 3-Stars because the price was good, but I wouldn't want someone to confuse it with higher quality resorts. I personally wouldn't return, I'm sure others could enjoy it.

Amazing resort! The food is very good! The buffet is amazing. The staff are all arpund wonderful, helpful, kind and always happy. Our only complaint was the beds, more on the hard side. We did need extra blankets for the room as it was very chilly, but we like to sleep like that anyways. Amazing beaches, lots of activities, and the market is great! 4/5 would be 5/5 if the beds were more comfy!

This was my first visit to Bahia Principe Tulum. Upon entry to the Hotel (Resort) is a beautiful jungle like atmosphere. Very good customer service throughout the resort from the lobby to the buffet area to the room. We had a 1 bedroom. 2 bath suite with balcony. The room accommodations were good. My only complaint was the firmness of the bed. Other than that everything has been wonderful. This is an all inclusive resort and the options for food and drinks was pretty good. This would be a nice venue to host a party for any occasion. I would recommend this resort for your future getaway for a couple or group.

I have stayed at Akumal twice and thoroughly enjoyed each visit!
My favourite part is the buffet with a good variety of quality food that varies at breakfast, lunch, and across themed dinners. The restaurants are also a great experience; even if some are big hits and others are misses, you can always find more food around the resort. The servers are almost always very friendly and charming.
I stayed in renovated rooms that were clean and bright, though the linens and towels could feel a bit more luxurious.
The location is beautiful and a variety of live music performances such as mariachi bands are a great way to relax and enjoy the evening. The entertainment crew also does a great job around the pool and are fun to people watch even if I didn't participate. Highly recommend!
