I had a deeply disappointing experience at this hotel. While the team made efforts to address the issues, the same cannot be said for the Food & Beverage (F&B) Manager, whose handling of the situation was both unprofessional and unacceptable.
I had booked an End-of-Year (EOY) party for my team, specifically requesting and receiving confirmation for a privatized space. This was thoroughly discussed and approved ahead of time. However, on the day of the event, we were unexpectedly placed in the common restaurant alongside other customers, completely disregarding the agreed arrangement.
To make matters worse, the cocktail reception was set up beside the pool, where children were playing. This was far from appropriate, especially given that our CEO was scheduled to deliver a speech during the cocktail hour. The environment was chaotic, unsuitable for such an occasion, and clearly not in line with the standards we expected.
When I raised these concerns with the F&B Manager, his response was nothing short of shocking. He dismissively stated, and I quote, "You didn't buy the hotel." Such a remark is entirely unbecoming of someone in the hospitality industry, where customer service and effective communication should be paramount.
This experience has left a lasting negative impression, and while I appreciate the efforts of the rest of the team, the lack of professionalism from the F&B Manager was unacceptable and deeply disappointing.

In searching for 5-star accommodation in Mauritius, our check list included small and intimate stays (preferably not resorts), close to the beach, sandy beaches and crystal clear waters, beautiful and comfortable rooms, excellent food and 5-star reviews. Le Cardinal clicked every box and delivered more. Rooms were spacious, well serviced, and all have amazing views of the beach. The crystal clear pool was a bonus. The meal options were varied and of high standard. The cocktail list included beers, wines, and other liquor. We paid for All Inclusive and were not left wanted for anything more. There are some snorkeling opportunities within the designated swimming area, although the fish were few and the coral rather bleached. This was my first experience of Mauritius, and Le Cardinal provided the best! Many thanks to all the friendly staff that serviced us throughout our 7-day stay.
Some tips to consider:
- Bring own snorkeling gear or buy from local shop.
- There is an ATM at the airport as well as in town, about a 15 min walk from hotel.
- If travelling from South Africa, be aware of different available flights. We arrived at hotel after 11pm on day 1 and had to leave for airport by 5am on day 7. So we basically missed a day. Other flights are available.
- The restaurant recommends long pants for dinner, no slops or shorts. So pack accordingly.

I’m not sure about the exact number but the feeling was that there were no more than 8 rooms in total.
No lines or waiting for anything. Always a bed available for you on the beach.
Having an “a la crate” breakfast and dinner every day, served by an always smiling staff is just the best you can ever ask.
Quietness, exclusivity and high standards of customer service are the main characteristics of this hotel. For us, this was true luxury.

My sister and I spent two nights there. We loved the hotels--all rooms face the ocean and we loved how small and intimate the property is. The room was big and comfortable, beautiful bed linens. The grounds are beautiful and the beach is wonderful. Best of all the cuisine is exceptional and the dining staff are so nice and helpful. We kept raving about the food and the service. Don't hesitate to book this hotel!
