Once perfect now just a bit worn. Staff EXCELLENT. Restaurant very good with a variety of choices on the buffet, imaginative menus. A variety of well stocked bars, but a number of cocktails on a special list, only available for a extra substantial payment. We stuck to the inclusive cocktails. The hotel is well situated near a bus route to the centre of Funchal, and walks along the promenade. Lots of facilities in the hotel. We received an invitation to accompany a rep of the Pestana Group to visit their recently renovated flagship hotel in the centre of Funchal. We were assured it was not timeshare. It was, by another name so be aware! That said they gave us two free tickets to any of the local amenities and trips. We went with our eyes open and expected timeshare. No we didn't buy, we are not fans of timeshare.

Cheese Cake

Excellent place for a super stay: Nice big clean room, comfy beds, good food and pleasant location. Staff is hard working, very nice and helpful. Music in the morning has been appreciated, especially the guitar. We didn’t participate in any events, but highly recommend Laeticia for a pampering and/or a massage : she is as skilled as caring.

This resort is NOT 5 stars. It may have been years ago, but needs serious updating- paint chipping, concrete cracks everywhere, outdated furniture, sings in elevator wrong (advertising a gift shop but one doesn’t exist), elevators are tiny, pull out couch was broken in our unit. Could not swim in the outdoor pool as it was freezing cold- should heat for the guests visiting in winter months for what we are paying. Wifi was not available outside room with any consistency. No variety of wine ( rose/white/red of same brand) or beer (stout or lager). Same food at pool bar/snack bar everyday. Staff were not friendly, seemed annoyed when asking for drinks or any other service. Only 1 restaurant open for reservations. The room was spacious (we had a suite) and balcony was nice with a fantastic view. With some major changes, the resort has the potential to be 5 stars. And to boot- one of us got a bad stomach virus upon departure. It was not a good experience and we would not return or recommend.

The staff were amazing. Knew what they were doing. Very friendly. Food was one of the best at an "all inclusive" I've ever been to. Location is good, even had an elevator down to sea level. Plenty of activities to keep busy with. Only thing that needed attention was some minor issues, like the shower screen didn't stop the water going under and on to the floor. Some minor aesthetic things I noticed around. But VERY minor. All in all a great place to stay

Christmas break Place is spotless, staff nice and friendly. Food not 5 star, choice limited, taste non existing in most dishes. All from a packet dressed up to look posh. Reddit disappointing 😞. 4 and 5 star usually excellent on food, that's one of the things you pay extra for. Local spirit,indescribable taste. Brandy, rum..... no telling! Wine yuk, sparkling was a form of very sweet perry. The place is run for profit with cheap food and alcohol. Coffee, ha ha, don't think so..chicory 🤔 Access to sea side walk was unique to this hotel I believe, with a lift. Pool loungers old and very worn therefore not comfortable. They ask need replacing. There was an indoor pool, gym and spa experience. The facilities here good, but I thought the spa offering expensive over 120 for a standard massage you would expect around 75 to 90. Madeira is a lovely green lush place full of vibrancy and friendly. Plenty of culture.
