A lovely setting, with very good restaurants and facilities. People very helpful and friendly. Spotlessly clean with good attention to detail. All ages catered for.
From the point of view of mobility, but able to walk with aids, a little difficult to get about some areas due to distance not because of lack of ramps, which are provided.
The hotel is accessed by steep hills at the front, making it hard to get up and down to go outside the complex.
Access to the pools is via long slopes inside the hotel.
These are not criticism merely observations.
If I was able to walk unaided I would go back without hesitation.

Our first time to Madeira. The hotel is big, upmarket and well laid out considering the geography.
Let's start with the best bit, the staff! THE STAFF ARE SIMPLY AMAZING! The restaurant staff are lovely, always smiling each mealtime they'd say hello the kids and really enjoyed interacting with our 1 year old. The chefs on the "live" stations were very friendly. Hotel reception super helpful, when my parents flight got diverted and they couldn't join us they were crystal clear on what they could and couldn't do at the time. My daughter fell over outside and they were straight there with a first aid kit: iodine and a plaster.
Rooms were fairly spacious with two doubles, a sofa bed/lounge area, small balcony and a large bathroom.
We booked half board, the food options were much more limited than other hotels we've stayed in in the Canary Islands, BUT THE QUALITY WAS MUCH HIGHER.
The pools, 4 in total, 3 infinity pools by the sea, they are salt water but that didn't bother us too much. Swimming out to the pontoon on the sea was good fun too

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We have rarely been on this type of holiday, we normally have a self catering style break. This time we needed a proper break from cooking and cleaning with a four month old in tow as well as a 7yr old this hotel met our expectations. I was a little dubious as to what the food would like but was also pleasantly surprised. Not everything was delicious but there was enough choice to be able to find something good every night, especially the seafood and the salads. Absolutely fantastic snorkelling right off the quay in front of the hotel. Madeira is a fantastic place to visit.

The Vidamar was excellent. Stunning views, lovely pools with access to the sea. The hotel was exceptionally clean due to the hardworking staff. All the staff were friendly and helpful. The spa was fabulous and the gym well equipped. Free parking for residents. Breakfast was amazing, such a great choice of food. The evening meals were the only thing that I wouldn't rate as 5*, although there are a couple of options for off site dining included.

I haven't stayed in the hotel ever, but I have attended the annual international bridge festival for several years in a row.
The facilities are great. The restaurant can deal well with a gala dinner for 500 people. The staff is friendly and professional.
