Arriving at this hotel was like stepping into a dream. Sadly, we only spent one night here but it was perfect from beginning to end. Friendly staff, beautiful decor, clean and inviting spaces.
We stayed in River villa 8 and it was beyond expectations. Very large rooms, a comfortable bed, a great shower and beautiful bathtub, a well stocked wine fridge, a lovely private outdoor seating area, and everything was very clean and fresh feeling. It was also incredibly private and quiet.
Comfortable robes and sandal slippers in the room, as well as a nice beach bag and amenities bag.
Of course the highlight was the incredible swim out pool. It was the perfect temperature, and swimming down the river felt like paradise, with palms overhanging and birds singing. Even in the rain (which is not typical weather for the area) it was magical, and was often empty of other guests.
We ate at The Top restaurant and everything was delicious and service was impeccable. Several vegetarian options (the tomato tartare was lovely!), and some special dishes that are prepared tableside.
The breakfast buffet was elegant and had a lot of tasty options as well.
This has usurped our previous favourite hotel on Tenerife, and when we return we will definitely be booking here!

Ups and downs. The location has a perfect vibe, surrounded by nature with unique pools—a top-notch setting.
However, the services could be significantly improved. We booked half-board but chose to dine outside the hotel, as external restaurants are considerably better—we strongly recommend restaurant Exencia.
Breakfast was mediocre—neither great nor terrible, and same everyday. The water in the rooms had a strange taste. While we appreciate the effort to reduce microplastics by providing filtered water, unfortunately, the taste was not pleasant.
The massage experience was disappointing—one of the least satisfying massages I've experienced. Overall, the entire SPA journey fell below expectations.
We changed rooms during our stay, and initially, the hotel didn't facilitate a seamless transition, suggesting we wait three hours even though rooms were available. After mentioning that we would reflect this experience in our review since is not normal if rooms are free, they quickly resolved the issue. We've traveled extensively, and this was the first time we've encountered such an issue.
Additionally, only 1-2 bottles of water were provided in the rooms. Given Tenerife's warm climate, more water is essential. When we requested additional water, it often arrived very late—sometimes taking up to two hours.
Rooms were clean, but after some time, the shower developed an unpleasant odor reminiscent of a public toilet.
Tenerife offers numerous activities, but the hotel does little to help guests discover or organize these experiences. Listing these on their website and assisting with arrangements should be standard practice, as seen in other high-quality hotels worldwide.
So, great environment, design, but services should be improved. Thanks for the experience.

I can not explain how grateful we are to Lydia and all of the staff at Royal River for an unbelievable birthday celebration for my wife. The lengths they went to were well beyond expectations, incredible decorations in the villa and the restaurant. I have traveled to over 50 destinations in the world and Royal River stands out as the best. Gracias Gareth

Absolutely phenomenal experience and amazing service! All the food has been beyond amazing and the spa is amazing too. Can’t really say enough great things about our stay here. The river in the back of your villa is super unique and fun. Always heated too so it’s consistently a good temp
Love my Food
First impression stunning unfortunately the service falls short of a luxury experience. Absolutely not worth what you pay for. Having had the privilege to stay in luxury hotels this one in comparison is disappointing.
- Receptionist checked us in, took us to our villa (wrong villa), brought our luggage only when we asked if someone could assist. All felt clumsy
- had to specifically follow up on small details like wifi details, water for the room. Wasn’t slick
- dinner took over an hour to arrive ( ordered burgers) others who had arrived after us were eating before we were. Had to chase
- I’m a coeliac asked for gluten free bread / bun. Eventually my burger arrived with bread in the wrapper and it was a make your own burger. Really when I’m paying £50 for a burger?
- no turn down service
So yes first impression style but no substance.
