My husband and I have been to several resorts in Cancun/Play del Carmen and this one was just meh. I would say very average. The landscape is beautiful and they have bikes on the resort for you to use at your leisure. Service was hit or miss, but they also seemed understaffed. There were a few servers that hustled the entire time, but several were very slow. Rooms were pretty bland. We were very disappointed in the entertainment which is to say there was none...zero. Typically in our experience, there is activities during the day by the pool and at night live music. They had none. They really don't even have a bar to go to at night. The food was also average. The breakfast buffet was chaotic, but had most of the items you would want. The restaurant by the pool had great ceviche and fish tacos for lunch. Dinner was just ok. They did have plenty of chairs by the pool and beach. All in all, I would say for the value, you can find better.

Great hotel, everything was exceptional. Rooms were spacious. I love the lighting options and shower was one of the best with sun filling the rooms. Balcony was an extra bonus, I loved having my morning coffee at the balcony. Would love to come back again.

If you are into resorts then this is probably a great place to go, if not, then like me you will be in for a shocker. Its quite a big area but you can use their bikes or get one of their golf cart shuttles to take you around. The food at the restaurants was mediocre at best and I would recommend getting food outside of the hotel. Also there are groups of raccoons on the premises who run around crawling into the rubbish bins and apparently can also get into your room if you forget to lock the door. The staff whoever were very nice and welcoming.

tl;dr - hosting an event here is a nightmare, and I was charged an extra $5,000 above the agreed cost of the event several days after checking out and paying my bill, with no explanation. I hosted an anniversary party event for about 75 people. We had a block of about 35 rooms booked and a series of dinners and other events planned for the weekend. For the most part the facilities are nice and the staff are friendly and try to be helpful, though it is evident many of them are unhappy and overwhelmed. The food is generally pretty good when/if it arrives. The problem is that the hotel is painfully disorganized and short-staffed. If you are forced to deal with the hotel at an administrative level—as you must when planning an event—be prepared for a lot of frustration. On arrival, many of our guests were unable to access their rooms until hours after check-in time. In some cases it took until 6 pm. This meant that many were unable to change clothes after arriving for a dinner we were hosting and were forced to sit for hours in the lobby or at a bar waiting in their winter clothes. It was almost as if the hotel was surprised that all these people were arriving. The hotel was not at capacity either, so it’s unclear why they didn’t have clean rooms. No apology, explanation or compensation was given. Service at the various restaurants and poolside was slow and inconsistent throughout the weekend. It sometimes took 30+ minutes to get a drink at the pool or an hour for a plate of fries or a bowl of ice cream. There are too few golf cart drivers so older guests who can’t ride bikes need to allow 30 minutes of lead time to get from one part of the resort to another (not between resorts in Mayakoba—just within Andaz itself). The event planning logistics were an endless source of misery in the months leading up to the weekend. The hotel exhibited a total lack of internal coordination and it sometimes took weeks to get answers to simple questions, which would then prove to be wrong. After getting a quote and signing the contract thousands of dollars of new expenses showed up. Pro tip: if you’re having a party at night and don’t want it to be in the dark, expect to spend $1,500 renting a few string lights you could have bought on Amazon for 3 hours. Another $1,500 to rent a pair of speakers and a microphone. This will not be in the quote you get before committing. If you have a group dinner at one of the restaurants, expect a few hundred dollars worth of “welcome cocktails” you didn’t order to show up on the bill. Upon checkout, we went through the costs of the event meticulously with the event planner and paid our balance, which was correct and complete. Several days later, almost $5,000 of additional charges showed up on my credit card. No outreach from the hotel or anything. I saw the charges weeks later when I went to pay my credit card bill. I am attempting to contact the hotel to find out what happened and have them refunded but so far no luck. Overall, our guests had fun. But each and every one of them was inconvenienced by something completely avoidable over the course of the weekend and I doubt many of them would opt to stay here again. The hotel is poorly managed at a fundamental level and it really shows. If I could do the event over at a different resort I would.

Staying here in February of 2026. They will be remodeling soon. Seems they checked out a bit. Long time to get drinks at the beach, short on activities, and a general malaise. The staff do a great job. And Cafe Amate top notch. I hope they keep this restaurant after the remodel.
