I visited Tulum in May and was absolutely impressed with Bahia Principe Grand Tulum. The experience overall was amazing. The food options were varied and the food itself was amazing. I especially loved the grill being open very late. The raccoons were definitely the entertainment while we ate. The rooms were simple, yet very nice and spacious. There were several pools and even an area for children to play. The location is 45 minutes from the airport which was reasonable. The only cons are the rocky beaches and the check-in process. We reserved 2 beds. Upon arrival, the check-in person told us that they didn’t have the room we reserved, nor would one be available. We were told several times to come back later in the day AND check back the next day for a room change. After day 3, we gave up. I was traveling with a group of 10 and the story was the same for all of us so we all ended up with a king bed and sofa bed. Service at the bars and restaurants was good, lots of activities happening throughout the resort and golf carts to the front of the property.

Kids Club is great! The staff are so sweet with the kids! Shoutout to Karina, Maria, Luis Paulina and Guillermo; you can tell they love working with kids!
The restaurants that you have to reserve in advance are excellent. The buffet is average but lots of options nonetheless.
Kay Beach Club is great, has entertainment and is paid dining.
A great resort for families!
I was not overly impressed with the actual service desks, it felt like they did not want to assist us. However the rest of the staff was great!

Here’s a cohesive review based on your notes:
Let me just say that despite all these negatives, we still made the best out of our trip.
That said, there were quite a few challenges we encountered during our stay. The wait for guest services was consistently long, making it difficult to address any issues quickly. The breakfast buffet line was always insane, and when we did get seated, the food lacked flavor, and drink service was incredibly slow. It often felt like the staff was frustrated with simple requests.
Our room had several maintenance issues, including a bathroom door that didn’t close, a halfway broken toilet seat, and towel hangers that kept falling off. On top of that, the in-room AC unit was so loud it disrupted our sleep, and we even encountered a cockroach in our room! Our bed was SUPER stiff and we were both in pain by the end of the trip.
The beach was disappointing—dirty with garbage and seaweed, and it didn’t seem like it was cleaned regularly. Walking into the water was uncomfortable with medium-sized rocks underfoot and large boulders further in, making it hard to enjoy swimming.
The spa experience was underwhelming as well. The massage room was freezing, and there was no jacuzzi or sauna area, which diminished the overall relaxation we were hoping for.
On the positive side, the Mexican and Brazilian steakhouses were phenomenal, offering high-quality food and excellent service—such a stark contrast to the buffet experience. We also had a wonderful experience with the resort photographer, Joel, whose pictures turned out amazing and helped us capture some great memories.
While we did our best to enjoy the trip, the number of issues we faced made it difficult to fully relax. I hope the resort takes these concerns seriously to improve the guest experience for future visitors.

A really excellent stay. The hotel is in great shape, very clean and modern. Grounds are immaculate. The multiple pools are very enjoyable. The Buffet style restaurant has an immense selection for all meals. Definitely check out the reservation only restaurants. They are superb.

The resort is 2 hour drive from airport upon arrival no welcome drink no one there to welcome you. No instructions on where the room is. You spend half the trip waiting in lines. Lines to be seated at buffet lines for drinks lines for the golf carts which never actually show up every ten minutes. The staff doesn't walk around much asking if you want drinks at the bar. The Air Canada reps here blatantly lied to us multiple times and we're more focused on decorating their booth for Christmas than actually providing assistance. Not a luxury resort whatsoever. The manager himself is nice and helpful but majority of the staff wasn't.
