My husband and I stayed at this resort seven times prior to his passing and we never wanted to stay anywhere else. Management, staff, location, service, ambience .... it had everything we could wish for. After my husband's passing, the staff arranged a beautiful send off for my husband's ashes .... blessing by monks and spreading the ashes via long boat before the Big Buddha. Nothing is too much trouble for the Dara to ensure your stay is everything you could wish for and I look forward to my next return.

I had a terrible experience here! Our stay at Dara Resort in Koh Samui was one of the worst hospitality experiences we’ve ever had and I work in hotels myself. From the moment we arrived, the staff was completely unaccommodating and by the end, totally unprofessional. We had originally booked a suite that was supposed to accommodate four adults, we even called ahead to confirm this, but when we arrived, we were given one small room with only three single beds—a far cry from what we had paid for. (And really? For three adults at a huge resort? We paid over $200USD per night) To make matters worse, a family member who was supposed to stay with us was denied accommodation at check-in. We understood they had requirements and rules for max adult in each room, but instead of trying to fix the issue on their side, they pretty much told us to figure it out in our own. The staff claimed the resort was sold out and offered no alternatives, forcing her to scramble to find a place to stay at the last minute. She ended up having to book a hostel for nearly another $100US, even though she was supposed to be at the resort with us. The resort’s treatment of our family member was completely unacceptable. She wasn’t just denied a place to stay—she was banned from the resort entirely. She wasn’t allowed to join us anywhere on the property—not in our room during the day, not at the pool, not even for breakfast as a paying customer. Staff followed us around constantly, checking if she was with us, and they even went as far as texting us at all hours of the night to “confirm” that she wasn’t there. It felt like we were under surveillance instead of on vacation. We couldn’t even enjoy the resort we paid for because they were following us around EVERYWHERE! This place has zero sense of hospitality, flexibility, or basic customer service. Instead of offering solutions, they enforced unnecessary and unreasonable rules that ruined our trip. If you’re considering staying here, don’t do it—there are plenty of better resorts in Koh Samui that actually respect their guests. I spoke with the manager and they never even offered an apology just a shrug and “the island is full have fun finding accommodation”. Absolutely atrocious.

We were very pleased with our stay. Great value. Breakfasts were spectacular, the staff is incredible. Kudos especially to Nay and Jackson, who went above and beyond. Thank you for a wonderful stay. We’ll be back!
