Our recent stay at the Royalton Bavaro in Punta Cana was a mixed experience. While there were some remarkable highlights, a number of issues left us feeling disappointed overall.
The Beach
The absolute star of the resort was the beach. It was, hands down, the best beach I’ve ever experienced. It’s truly a slice of paradise and one of the few redeeming features of our stay.
Pools and Lazy River – Great for Families
The pools and the lazy river were also impressive. They were well-maintained, spacious, and provided plenty of fun for both adults and kids. The lazy river, in particular, was a standout feature and a great way to unwind.
Service – Inconsistent and Frustrating
Unfortunately, the service at the resort left much to be desired. We often had to ask 4-5 times for basic necessities like cleaning services and towels. The majority of the staff were neither friendly nor welcoming, with very few smiles or warm interactions throughout our stay. This lack of hospitality was incredibly disappointing for a resort of this stature.
Rooms – Far Below Expectations
The rooms were another major letdown. They were far from clean and would likely only earn a 2.5-star rating by Canadian standards. It was clear that more attention to detail and upkeep is needed to meet even basic cleanliness expectations. The tub leaked and flooded our room (we had to clean it up ourselves because no one came to help after repeated requests) - the same thing happened to a family member in another room. Room was damp and musty smelling, thermostat didn't work properly and the room was not cleaned properly we found all kinds of things under our beds from the last guest.
Safety Concerns – Slippery Floors
One alarming issue we witnessed was the slippery floors in the lobby. During our stay, we saw at least 25 slip-and-fall incidents, which raised serious safety concerns. This is something the management needs to address urgently.
Food – Mediocre at Best
The food at the resort was average at best. While there were a few decent options, overall, the dining experience lacked flavor and variety. Given the price point of the resort, we expected a much higher standard of cuisine. 45 min line up for the pasta bar as they only had one person cooking (poor management).
Overall Impression
While the beach and pools were exceptional, the poor service, dirty rooms, safety concerns, and mediocre food overshadowed the positives. With some significant improvements, this resort could live up to its potential. However, based on this experience, I would be hesitant to recommend it.

Whatever you do, do not consider this resort for your next vacation. It’s not a 5-star resort, as it was sold to us; 1 star at best.
This place is filthy and nasty. Attaching pictures as a proof. My kids stayed in the room where the ceiling was covered in mold; thank god they got moved to another room. Someone had an accident in the hallway. Our white towels had mold on them.
And on day 3 both my husband and I got food poisoning from eating at the fly infested buffet.
Only about 5%of staff is friendly, the rest of them have no concept of customer service.
We could not wait to get out of there. Consider yourself warned!

Absolutely horrible resort. Property is run down and not well maintained. We had booked the presidential 2 bedroom suite with diamond club. Within 24 houra, 4 out of 6 members of the family got salmonella poisoning. 2 family members did not because they fell asleep during dinner at the Italian restaurant.
The salmonella poisoning led to vomiting, diarrhea and high fevers which forced us to return the United states in case anyone would require serious medical care. Which was the right thing to do since the kids were hospitalized upon return to America.
In addition one of the maids that came to wash the floor after a vomiting episode stool $600 from a purse that was by the door. Security was completely useless, and were only willing to make a report that would take 72 hours. But wanted to search the entire room including safes before writing a report.
This resort has never heard of the food preservation or cleanliness. The food is nasty and disgusting. The best thing st the buffet is the pasta station and that has 1 person making 1 dish of pasta at a time....forcing you to wait over an hour for something moderately edible.
Pictures of the "presidential 2 bedroom suite is attached ".
Service at the restaurants is terribly slow. Two and a half to 3 hours for a meal. Simply ridiculous.
Stay far far away from this horrible place.

If I could give them 0 stars, I definitely would!!!
I would not recommend this resort to anyone. I came here after going to another resort several times with an amazing experience and so I decided to give another resort the opportunity to have a great experience. Well, where do I start: the food was cold every single meal. The first day I went to the buffet it was kind of late, so I just figured that was the reason. The next day, I went as soon as the buffet opened and the food was still cold; I don’t know if it’s a light heating issue or what. And I forgot to mention that when we first sat down and the table was dirty, the lady only simply moved the used cups sitting at the table; and when I asked her to clean the table properly with some cleaning agent, she looked at me as if I asked her for $100. Honestly, any time I asked any of the waiters for drinks or anything, they all seem to have an issue and I believe they intentionally took a long time to bring the drinks.
Then the quality of service performed for cleaning the rooms was terrible. She barely cleaned the bathroom and didn’t mop or anything. Then the towels look as if they are 25 yeas old: very brown and thinned out! The service is also the worst; I asked for some washcloths and it took them 45 minutes to arrive.
If I had of known this is the level of service I would get, I would continued visiting my regular resort. I was very disappointed that this is the level of service I received for a resort that has Marriott’s name on it.

This resort was an extreme disappointment! Our room was dirty, our towels were dirty and the pools were filthy. The towels all had a rotten cheese smell, even the clean towels. They were all stained and had seen better days. The grounds were not kept up and seemed very run down for a “newish” resort.
Our room was FILTHY when we arrived. It looked like it had not been cleaned from the previous guests. The mirrors had toothpaste spatter all over them. The sink had toothpaste in it. The tub was dirty with a ring of dirt around the bottom. The shower had sand and shampoo suds still in the shower. The room was beyond dusty!
The pools were also filthy. It is expected that there will be some degree of buildup on a pool at resorts, however I have never seen something like this before. When I expressed my concern with the cleanliness of the pools I was told this is normal and to expect some dirt as it’s from the sunscreen of the guests. Having travelled to over a dozen all inclusive resorts, I have never seen this before or heard this as an excuse.
The lazy river was all filthy and had glass in it! We are very lucky our children could not touch the bottom as they would have been cut.
The only positive at this resort was some of the lovely staff! The bartenders were doing their best and always had a smile on their face. The hostesses and wait staff were also all very lovely! The entertainment team was lovely and the kids activities were great! Each night the kids had something to do which was nice to pass time in the evening.
They did try and make up for all of these disappointments by offering us the buffet breakfast each morning at the diamond club! It was a nice gesture and was very convenient as the only breakfast place is the main buffet which is about a 7-10 min walk depending which hotel room you are staying at! They also offered us free waterpark passes to make up for the dirty pools. At first it was another great gesture. But in order to get these free passes we had to sign a contract with the manager stating we would not speak about our experience, nor could we hold them responsible or accountable for any other issues we would have for the remaining time at the resort, which was still another 2 days. I found this contact to be extremely unsettling and I immediately ripped it up and figured it was best not to take the free water park passes being offered.
I would definitely not consider this a 5 star hotel. It is shocking that this is an Marriot property. Overall I would never return and would never recommend this resort to anyone. There are better options in the same beach with similar if not cheaper pricing.
