My husband and I went to this resort for our honeymoon. It was underwhelming, not a bad experience but nothing special considering it was our honeymoon. We’ve had better trips for far less money.
The great: the general property, beach, gym, and spa are wonderful. Having the mini water park is fun too.
The good: the food and drinks were decent. I didn’t eat or drink anything there that I’ll miss but it wasn’t terrible.
The bad: the pool was freezing and the hot tubs was more like a warm tub. The restaurants were also so cold, like 68 degrees cold- bring a jacket!!! If you’re sitting on the beach, the waiters only come around about once and hour and if you order a drink it takes them like 30 additional minutes to bring it to you. Also- they don’t bring food to you if you’re at the pool or beach which is a bummer.
Bad experience that was probably unique to us: our room took like 2 and half hours to be ready, which after traveling 11 hours on a red eye, wasn’t ideal. I also had to beg the hotel to acknowledge our honeymoon after seeing them celebrate birthdays and anniversaries for others for days. It took 3 in-person conversations and an email to get something.
Our room wasn’t in good condition, not super clean and in need of repairs. We will not be back but I could see this property being great for families.

Everything was amazing. Literally paradise. The staff made us feel like no one else mattered and I am sure the other guests felt the same. They remembered our drink orders and names. Asked if everything was great and if we need absolutely anything. I feel like nothing could be better and will be back for sure. When we first arrived it was prior to check in and we were instantly made at home. Our first ( and last) interaction was at the lobby bar Gabriella's with Luis, Maria and Eugenia. They interacted with us, gave us tips and basically befriended us. To the point we could not wait to say hello every single day. The folks there are beautiful. The culture is beautiful and you could not find a better place to go. We were sad saying goodbye to all our new friends there however we had to make one last trip to our friends at Gabriella's that welcomed us to 'home' before heading to our actual home.

After a miserable 34 hours of not sleeping well due to flight changes and delays, we hoped to relax at this resort. However, we didn’t have a good start. We booked the Club Ocean View Junior Suite. When we checked in, they didn’t remind us or mention the Blind Butcher dinner on the day of arrival. I called them several times beforehand and noted we were celebrating our wedding anniversary. Still, when we walked into our room, there were no decorations like other resorts would do.
Then we decided to take a quick nap after a shower (the water pressure wasn’t great). The condition of the bedding sheet was disgusting. They didn’t inspect well or do a thorough cleaning service before our stay. They still put a “room is sanitized sticker outside,” which seems to be a joke. I’m a frequent Marriott hotel customer (Platinum), and my first experience with Hyatt was horrible. I don’t know what to expect in the next few days.
[updated again after staying for two nights] TL;DR: We decided to check out 2 days before our original departure date.
They tried to make it up for us by decorating our door with crime-scene-looking bands and a plain cake with $9.50 of champagne. Okay, at least they were trying.
The spa service was good, and the people there were attentive (probably giving more attention than expected). The rooms and facilities were top-notch. However, we could only take a cold water shower at the end. :(
The worst part of our stay was the “90-minute presentation about a platform we could use to book our future stays”. We decided to do it for the 30-minute spa voucher. It was a nightmare. It started at 9am-ish and went over to about 3 hours and made me miss the Aqua Bike class I wanted to take at noon. I was checking on the watch and letting them know about our plans around 11am. But then I cried next to the pool due to the refusal to attend.
Very stressed and disappointed about our stay here.
The Playa Collection x Hyatt partnership seems sketchy. Be aware.

Brilliant all around. The best all inclusive I have had the privilege to stay at. The staff was friendly and always ready to help. Food was well presented and tasted fantastic at all the restaurants I visited. My only complaint was I did feel rushed at some of the restaurants. The grounds were very well kept and the views were wonderful. The beach was spectacular.

We honeymooned for a week at Hyatt Zilara Cap Cana and couldn’t be happier with our decision. The resort was beautiful and the service was excellent. We had a Club Oceanfront Junior Suite which had a fantastic uninterrupted view of the beach and ocean. The room was very spacious, clean and comfortable. Some food was better than others, but overall we were impressed with the quality of food, especially at the steakhouse. We loved our morning at the spa and would definitely recommend either the romantic beach dinner and/or the Blind Butcher. We loved our time at this resort and would definitely visit again!
