We were hesitant to visit due to the alarmingly large amount of negative Google reviews although I was confused the whole time I was there about many of those reviews. Maybe it has to do with certain rooms or locations but personally I didn’t encounter any issues. Some people we knew waited a long time at check-in later in the evening/nighttime but other than that, as seasoned Cancun all-inclusive travelers (10x plus for me) — no negative experiences while there. We came for a destination wedding which was beautiful and a great time. The service was great, the food was good, and we never got sick. Orlando at the buffet was wonderful. The resort is beautiful. The beach/ocean is Ok. All in all, a good time.

Health and Safety Hazards – Avoid This Resort
Our experience at Royalton Riviera was shocking and deeply concerning. The cleanliness was unacceptable—hallways had visible blood cast-off, floors appeared as though they hadn’t been cleaned in years, and room service dishes were left out for days. Mold was rampant, covering the ceilings in the restaurants and filling the spaces between the horizontal slats of exterior bricks, leading to a pervasive musty smell throughout the resort. To mask the odor of mold, the staff placed scented diffusers everywhere, which only made the air quality worse.
The resort also poses serious risks to health and safety. Bricks, tiles, and ceiling paneling were falling in multiple areas, creating dangerous conditions for guests. A neighboring guest cut their foot on the poorly maintained stairs leading to the swim-up area. On top of this, we experienced food poisoning along with many others at the resort, and our child developed respiratory issues during our stay, likely exacerbated by the mold and poor air circulation.
Service was shockingly poor, even when tipping generously, and the overall experience was so dreadful we were counting down the days until our “vacation” ended.
This property is in dire need of a full health and safety inspection. @Marriott should seriously reconsider its association with such a liability. For your safety, health, and peace of mind, we strongly urge you to choose another destination.

My wife and I stayed at the Hideaway at Royalton Riviera in the Summer. Other than being blisteringly hot during the August heat, the trip was incredible. Rooms were clean and well kept, the resort was beautiful, and the beaches were well cleaned despite the amount of sargassum they had to contend with each day. Staff were welcoming and kind whenever we’d see them around and they never pushed too hard for the spa or excursions. There were plenty of choices for delicious food too! Over our seven days we tried almost every restaurant with zero complaints. Our only real gripe from the whole week would be that the mini fridge could have been better stocked as there were some days where drinks just simply were not replaced. Other than that this was a perfect trip and we’re already considering coming back this summer with our kids for another week of fun.

When we booked this resort, THE REVIEWS were great, but later negative ones worried us. We upgraded to DIAMOND CLUB, and check-in was a breeze with drinks, snacks, and an overview of the resort.
THE ROOM was nice but dated, with a slight smell that we got used to. Maid service was adequate, and the mini fridge was stocked daily. The AC worked intermittently, but it wasn’t a big issue. We had two BUTLERS, Alonzo & Jocelyn, who were excellent, quickly handling requests and reservations.
THE RESORT is a bit dated, with older pools needing renovation, but service at the Diamond Club pools was fantastic. Staff worked hard to keep everything clean. MOSQUITOES were mainly an issue at the beach. The sand was nice, but the water was murky, so we spent more time by the pools.
THE FOOD was outstanding—the best we've had at any Caribbean all-inclusive. Everything tasted fresh, and hygiene standards were high. Many food options were available, including buffets, à la carte restaurants, and snack bars. We were vigilant with hygiene and stayed healthy.
ENTERTAINMENT was hit or miss, but there was a decent variety. THE STAFF were incredibly friendly and hardworking, gracious when tipped. Some CONSTRUCTION near the main pool was noisy but didn’t affect the Diamond Club area. We skipped the spa due to high prices and used the beach massage services instead.
Negatives: The alcohol quality was disappointing, even in Diamond Club. Many drinks lacked a buzz, and the selection was limited. Also, the resort is isolated, with limited excursion options nearby.
TO SUM UP, the Diamond Club upgrade was worth it for the personalized service, quieter pools, and lounge access. While the resort isn’t a 5-star due to dated facilities, the food and service are excellent. Proximity to the airport is a plus, but better alcohol options would be needed for us to return.

This is by far one of the worst hotels I’ve stayed in. If I can give a 0 I would. We chose this because Royalton CHIC Cancun experience was incredible but I would never come back here. DON’T EVER RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL
Service:
The staffs are incredibly unfriendly and most of them have an attitude. The staffs at the check-in and check-out talk shit behind our back among themselves. We aren’t dumb, we know you guys talk shit. Not only that, check-in takes forever. The waiters and waitresses all pretend like we don’t exist and have the worst attitude. Service over the phone is extremely slow and we had staffs sighing over the phone for a simple room cleanup request as if we’re an annoyance. One time the housekeeping staffs just took the tips without even doing any of the housekeeping stuffs. The bedsheets still not in place, towels not replaced. Room service to get food was delayed for like 3 hours. We have tipped every service, bars, restaurants, room service, housekeeping just to receive the worst kind of service. I’ve met just a few of them that were actually worth giving tips.
Rooms & facilities:
We had 2 rooms both smelled like mold, a lot of corrosion on metal surfaces, not clean at all. One of the rooms shower heads not working. Never change sheets unless requested. So many slippery grounds, stairs and curbs not lit well. The roads are bumpy, eroded, shaky. I’ve heard so many cases of people falling getting injured in this hotel including myself within just a week I stayed.
Food:
The quality isn’t there. Tons of restaurants but aren’t much more variety than the buffet they serve. Can’t even have dinner without reservation, do not take walk-ins. When we politely ask if we can make a reservation on spot, the staff with an attitude telling us no, do it on the app.
