Great location for attending The Met. Beyond that, I cannot recommend this hotel. The front desk receptionist gave off a ‘I hate working here vibe.’ No friendly greeting, no chit chat, no smile. The room, number 808, not good. The a/c system was uncontrollable. Could either be on cold (and then after about 20 minutes, the fan started making a loud racket) or hot and steamy (literally eyeglass lens steamy) could not turn it off. (The second pic is the rusty a/c grill.) There were no seating chairs, no dresser, NO coffee pot (huge turn off.) the shower stall had a crack from one end to the other. This was a two night overstay for two and for $1200 I think better room accommodations would be in order. I rate this hotel below The W on Times Square (which was pretty bad itself.) I’ve been to literally 100s of hotels and can honestly say, this stacks up one of the worst.

We had a pleasant stay. Staff were incredibly welcoming and service minded, we arrived early and was offered an early check in which was highly appreciated.
The hotel is conveniently located and we walked almost everywhere. Make sure to check out the rooftop bar as well. Great views, cocktails and food. The staff there is also incredibly attentive and friendly.
The only downside of things would be the rooms. They’re pretty outdated and could really use some work. However for the price you pay, this hotel was great.

We stayed at The Empire Hotel for the week of our wedding. When checking in we were pleasantly surprised to find out that we've been given a complimentary room upgrade. The room (and the hotel as a whole) was gorgeous and clean. The dresser and closet were on the small side but we made it work.
The free water is a big plus, many hotels charge for bottled water, but you can just go to the front desk and ask for some. All of the staff were so so friendly and always showed a smile. As a gossip girl fan, I had to go to the roof and try the namesake drink as well as take in the BREATHTAKING views.
This hotel is in such a fabulous location that you can get to anywhere you need. Not even a 10 minute walk to central park and 30 minutes to reach practically anywhere by sub. It is surrounded by some of the most delicious bars and restaurants! (We highly recommend Joanne's).
All in all our stay was so magical. Thank you, Empire, for playing such a big part in making our wedding so memorable, stress free, and stunning.

My stay at the Empire was wonderful! it's a gorgeous old place, perfectly situated, and very well kept up; spotless, and manages to be both retro and modern. It has an attitude, but the staff does not! Every employee I dealt with was friendly, cheerful and helpful. My room was tiny, but cozy and comfortable. If I make it to NYC again, will definitely plan to stay here again! :)

The room was clean but very small, with also very small bathroom. The heating system was broken, wires coming out of the controller; so we weren’t able to control the heating - it was too called for me at 68 deg F. Both of our keycards had to be replaced/fixed 4 times in 2 days - which was very annoying. No coffee in the room nor the hotel. The hotel doesn’t have any restaurant, but there is on next door. Also, there are 3 coffee shops within 5 min walking distance.
But the location was great - 3 min from metropolitan opera and 7 min away from subway.
