This hotel is beautiful. Stunning pools, pristine beach and the food! Best hotel I have been to my entire life. Air-conditioned rooms. The staff are so polite and respectful, always greeting us at every turn. I'm definitely coming back!

Overall, the hotel is very good considering the price of the rooms. The rooms are spacious, have great views, and are in excellent condition. The hotel’s beach is also very nice — there are sunbeds available and the service is excellent. The butler service can feel a bit too intense at times, but that might just be my personal impression. Physically, the hotel isn’t the most beautiful and it does show signs of age, but it’s still in good condition overall. There are only two restaurants — the buffet and another one by the beach. In my opinion, it would be great to have a couple more dining options, like in other hotels I’ve stayed at on the island. Still, everything else was very good. Highly recommend the whale watching excursion to Tamarin that the hotel organizes — it was a fantastic experience!

Spent 13 days half board, couple with a child. Staff friendly and will go above to please. Hotel /rooms/ yard very well looked after including the beach. Only let down is the entertainment which is below average for a 5 star hotel. Plus side is the food - buffet style was above expectation with various cuisine different days. Stephane and his team do very well with communicating and assisting the clients. Special mention to Sanjay who apart from cooking some delicious dishes does very well accommodating and spending time with the clients. Overall very good experience and would recommend this hotel

Review for The Residence, Mauritius – April 2025 Beautiful hotel, stunning location — but bring a pen (and your own wine) We stayed for 10 days in April 2025. Overall, a beautiful hotel in a stunning location — about an hour’s easy drive from the airport. The building is impressive: airy, elegant, spotless, and well designed. First impressions were very good. The breakfast buffet was fresh and varied. Dinner (we were half-board) also had a good selection, with the puddings getting a special thumbs-up. However… a few things definitely need attention. Drinks are extortionate. A double gin and tonic was 75 dirhams (around £15), and a bottle of fairly average wine would set you back £40–£60. I’m no stranger to over priced drinks in the Middle East, but this felt like the hotel stretching it. Having visited other hotels in the area I know the average rate for drinks is somewhat less than The Residence. Staff were polite but service was often slow and distant. I enjoy a friendly chat but it was hard work to get any engagement. Most of the time, staff seemed busier clearing tables than interacting with guests. I honestly got the feeling that most of the staff would rather be somewhere else. The Plantation restaurant was the exception — staff there were excellent. One standout frustration: the relentless signature-hunting. Every drink, every snack, came with a receipt to sign. Even when they knew us by name and room number, it was sign, sign, sign — six or seven times a day. Surely there’s a better way. I also had two massages — both very good — but the pricing was bizarre: a 90-minute massage cost less than a 75-minute one. No explanation, no extra bells and whistles — just another example of strange pricing that didn’t feel very guest-friendly. Despite these quirks, I would still recommend The Residence. It offers good value overall (if you sidestep the drinks menu). If they worked a little harder on staff engagement — and a little less on paperwork — this could be a truly exceptional place. Overall 4/5 but has everything but the staff to be 5/5

Overall a good hotel, direct access to the beach, good food & service. However, having to give it a 1 star review because of stray dogs in the restaurant area at every dinner in the 12 nights that we stayed there. After dinner when chilling by the pool for drinks again surrounded by 2-3 dogs every time coming up to you and your drinks. Even saw them go after children which would make them run away at times so not suitable for families. Completely killed the vibe and something I have never dealt with at a 5 star hotel. Sort it out or I will not be back or recommend it to anyone!
